Am 2. Juni 1967 wurde der Student Benno Ohnesorg im Hof des Hauses Krumme Straße 66 während einer Demonstration gegen den tyrannischen Schah des Iran von einem Polizisten erschossen.

Sein Tod war ein Signal für die beginnende studentische und außerparlamentarische Bewegung, die ihren Protest gegen Ausbeutung und Unterdrückung besonders in den Ländern der Dritten Welt mit dem Kampf um radikale Demokratisierung im eigenen Land verband.

Unter diesem Eindruck schuf Alfred Hrdlicka 1971 das Relief
