Description
Français : Portrait d'Augustine Bocquet (1780-1849), épouse (1798) de Louis-François Bertin de Veaux.

Girodet expose ce portrait au Salon de 1810 (no 372 - Portrait de Mme D. V***), en même temps que six autres portraits féminins et celui de Chateaubriand. La pose adoptée par Girodet pour ce portrait de Madame Bertin de Vaux reprend celle de celui de Madame de Verninac par David (musée du Louvre) daté de 1799 : le bras gauche replié sur le dossier de la chaise gondole sur laquelle elle est assise, et le buste de trois quart, la jeune femme nous regarde en face. Cependant, tandis David s'inspire clairement de la représentation sculpturale des matrones romaines, chez Girodet, l'Antique n'est plus évoqué que par la frise de palmette sur le lambris du mur et la broderie de la robe.

Augustine, assise, est vêtue d'une robe de velours vert et tient un livre à la main.
