Placa a la paret de la casa del carrer Tapioles on va viure El Sr. Alexandre Merletti Guaglia, pioner dels periodistes gràfics de Barcelona

Alessandro Merletti i Quaglia Torí, 1860 - Barcelona, 1943

Fotògraf d'origen italià. De jove emigrà a l'Argentina per exercir la seva professió, però aviat decidí d'anar-se'n. De retorn s'establí a Barcelona (1889), on restaria per sempre. Exercí de fotògraf professional i s'especialitzà en reportatges gràfics, de manera que cal considerar-lo com un dels pioners del periodisme gràfic a Catalunya. Són molt conegudes, per exemple, les fotografies que obtingué en el judici de Ferrer i Guàrdia (1909) i que foren publicades en bona part de la premsa internacional. Treballs seus aparegueren a "Blanco y negro", "La Ilustración Artística", "Daily Mirror", etc. Personatge molt característic pel seu polifacetisme, es dedicà també a la invenció i a la tècnica aplicada.
