The parish of Bauan was administered by the Augustinians from 1596 to the end of the nineteenth century. The church built in the eighteenth century, remodelled and improved by the Rev. Hipolito Huerta and the Rev. Felipe Bravo in the nineteenth century was destroyed by fire on July 13, 1928. The eminent botanist Father Blanco was pastor of this church from 1816 to 1828. Under his administration great impetus was given to the home industries of weaving and dyeing. The Museum of Natural History and the Library of Rare Books collected by Father Bravo were destroyed during the insurrection of 1898. (English)
