The historical marker is located at the base of the monument of a lady brandishing the Philippine flag on top of a rocky ground with three stars depicting Luzon, Mindanao and Panay. (English)

On this site, on May 28, 1898, between 10:00 A.M. to 3:00 P.M., A bloody encounter ensued between Filipino Revolutionary forces and approximately 270 Spanish Marines. This battle, which resulted in the triumph of Filipino forces, was taken as glorious occasion for General Emilio Aguinaldo y Famy to display the Philippine Flag for the first time at Cavite Nuevo. The event, which marked the baptism of fire and glory of the Philippine Flag, was the beginning of the successful struggle to overthrow Spanish rule and the establishment of the Philippine Republic.<br><br>Because of the historical significance of this date, President Diosdado Macapagal issued Proclamation No. 374 declaring May 28 of each year as National Flag Day.<br><br>This historical marker is installed by the grateful Filipino nation in recognition of the extraordinary bravery and heroism of the Filipino forces. Unveiled on May 28, 1998 in the observance of the centennial of the battle of Alapan by His Excellency President Fidel Valdez Ramos. (English)
