Standard Citation Forms for Rare Materials Cataloging ID
[edit]Originally proposed at Wikidata:Property proposal/Authority control
Motivation
[edit]Standard Citation Forms for Rare Materials Cataloging (SCF) is an online reference source from the Rare Books and Manuscripts Section (Q7294494) of Association of College and Research Libraries (Q4809736). It identifies and describes bibliographies and other reference sources used by the rare book community, and provides standardized strings for use in citing these sources. Each entry contains a standard citation form, previous or alternate citation forms, bibliographic information about the reference source, and external links to more information and a digitized version if applicable. Linking to this source from Wikidata will provide additional information about the Wikidata version, edition or translation (Q3331189) and a method of citing it that is frequently used by the rare book community.

Discussion
[edit]- Support --Jala360 1:56p, 8 June 2021 (UTC) (it looks like the property is about controlled terms in the rare materials community, so I support this
- Support -- With Wikidata being so accommodating, I do wonder why the name proposed is a shortened form, and not, for example, "Standard Citation Forms for Rare Materials Cataloging ID" BethGuay (talk) 15:10, 8 June 2021 (UTC)
- Support Hildebrand.R (talk) 16:41, 8 June 2021 (UTC)
- Would other folks prefer the longer name, "Standard Citation Forms for Rare Materials Cataloging ID" as BethGuay suggests in her comment above? I used the shorthand I'm accustomed to but I understand why the longer name could be preferable zidmgmt (talk) 16:48, 8 June 2021 (UTC)
- Just made this change to longer form and added proposed aliases zidmgmt (talk) 18:42, 8 June 2021 (UTC)
- Support. I also think the longer name is preferable as the label, and you could give the shorter form as an alias. UWashPrincipalCataloger (talk) 16:54, 8 June 2021 (UTC)
- Support -- This property will be key for the rare materials cataloging community, and I agree with the comments above about using the longer form for the label. - GracianiPicardo (talk) 18:30, 8 June 2021 (UTC)
