Descriptionpredictive measurement of a material resistance to a chemical
Representschemical resistance (Q1069398)
Data typeItem
Template parameterThis proprety request is part of the project of creating an infobox for materials.
DomainChemical property of stainless steel (Q172587).
Allowed valuesISO 4628 set criterias: Blistering N2-S2, Discoloration I1... Most datasheets (and en Wikipedia's infoboxes) use Poor/Fair/Good wich can be a first approach. together with (P1706), temperature (P2076) are mandatory qualifiers.
Example 1neoprene (Q143937) → poor together with (P1706)acetone (Q49546), acetaldehyde (Q61457), acetophenone (Q375112), ... [1]
Example 2neoprene (Q143937) → fair together with (P1706)acetamide (Q421721), acetylene (Q133145), benzene (Q2270), ...
Example 3neoprene (Q143937) → good together with (P1706)adipic acid (Q357415), aluminum acetate (Q419150), arsenic acid (Q413334), ...

Planned useCreating an infobox for materials

Motivation

Most datasheets only give poor / fair / good. From a purely scientifical point of view I always find this citeria a bit weak. However this is incredibly usefull as a first criteria to choose the gloves you will use to manipulate a chemical, to choose a lubricant for a material, to know if you can use this material in such environnement... --Thibdx (talk) 07:58, 10 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Discussion

Probably. I was thinking about this too. I still don't know if the above request will end in creating a qualifier "environnement" or something more precise like "chemical medium". --Thibdx (talk) 11:34, 10 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Another argument for creating this qualifier ;) Wostr (talk) 18:48, 10 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Thibdx, Wostr: I propose to stop this proposal to define a new one: first we shouldn't create a property for the material item but one for the chemicals in order to avoid to have 4-8 items with hundreds of statements. Better have for each chemical 4-8 statements regarding the material to use for handling purpose
Then instead of using poorly defined criteria for chemical resistance, better use a standard like ASTM F 739-96 or EN374 to describe chemical resistance. Snipre (talk) 15:04, 15 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
The main problem is to have some data available. The poor/fair/good is widely available in materials datasheets even if it is not very "scientific". If we want a more scientific description we have to ensure that the data is available for a significant number of materials because we will not perform the tests ourselves. I will try to see if I find out something. --Thibdx (talk) 22:27, 15 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
