- Support Laftp0 (talk) 13:15, 7 November 2022 (UTC)
- I think this should restricts to more specific since sometimes there would be too many like technology (Q11016). Laftp0 (talk) 13:37, 7 November 2022 (UTC)
- do you have an example? I mean, what exactly is your concern? – Loominade (talk) 13:38, 7 November 2022 (UTC)
- We can add every instances of technology topic in https://joinmastodon.org/servers to technology (Q11016) because their subjects are about technology. Laftp0 (talk) 14:14, 7 November 2022 (UTC)
- I'd say all of the communities listed on https://joinmastodon.org/servers under technology are about something more specific than technology (Q11016). PHP (Q59) → phpc.social, Ruby (Q161053) → ruby.social, beer (Q44), free software (Q341) → hostux.social etc. – Loominade (talk) 14:45, 7 November 2022 (UTC)
- Oh, yes you are right. My example was bad. But anyway I Support now because I remembered there are similar properties like subreddit (P3984) and my opinion does not make sense. Laftp0 (talk) 15:10, 7 November 2022 (UTC)

- Comment I am not at all up to date on the customs here but I would rather go for URL (P2699) on a dedicated item for the instance, with operator (P137) pointing to the corresponding organization. − Pintoch (talk) 22:57, 7 November 2022 (UTC)
- sounds reasonable too -- Loominade (talk) 14:47, 8 November 2022 (UTC)
- in particular because there is a lot to say about each instance. here is a showcase item: Mastodon.ART (Q115128383) -- Loominade (talk) 14:59, 8 November 2022 (UTC)
- following this scheme there is actually no use for Mastodon address (P4033) -- Loominade (talk) 15:04, 8 November 2022 (UTC)
- @Loominade: Is that really a showcase item? Ainali (talk) 19:19, 14 November 2022 (UTC)
- @Loominade: Oh, there is plenty of use of it because it's a lot of trouble to retrieve the address from that statement. Also, with the trend of more people getting their own server, it will be quite a lot of bloat in Wikidata to create and store that rather than simply just the URL for the server or the address for the account. - Support but Mastodon should be capitalized. -wd-Ryan (Talk/Edits) 16:35, 9 November 2022 (UTC)

- pardon my ignorance but how is this different from the official website of an instance? BrokenSegue (talk) 21:11, 14 November 2022 (UTC)
- the idea here is that individual instances might/should have no item. for example Not Just Bikes (Q105104236) has its own instance
notjustbikes.com
which is not the official website -- Loominade (talk) 09:51, 15 November 2022 (UTC)- ok thanks BrokenSegue (talk) 17:33, 15 November 2022 (UTC)
- @BrokenSegue, Loominade:,
notjustbikes.com
is a domain, not an instance. And the instance can be found at https://social.notjustbikes.com/ . 89.14.237.54 19:12, 23 March 2023 (UTC)

- Comment a useful bot job might be aquiring metadata from
https://[mastodon url]/manifest.json
and save name (P2561), short name (P1813), sRGB color hex triplet (P465) as qualifiers to each statement. Every mastodon instance should have it. -Shisma (talk) 17:17, 19 November 2022 (UTC)- That should be stored on an item about the Mastodon instance and not using qualifiers but regular statements. 89.14.237.54 19:19, 23 March 2023 (UTC)
- Oppose the examples are just URLs. There are more things to say about a Mastodon instance than the URL. Create an item for each instance, P31=Mastodon instance, state the URL there, as well as anything else. 89.14.237.54 19:12, 23 March 2023 (UTC)
- that's sometimes true. On the other hand, are also single-user instances like in the case of Not Just Bikes (Q105104236). I wouldn't want to create an item for those. I'd propose to qualify statements with statement is subject of (P805) in cases where an instance item exits – Shisma (talk) 11:18, 19 April 2023 (UTC)
- Oppose with this datatype, it should be item. We can do <item><Mastodon instance>someone
URL (P2699)<URL>. --Tinker Bell ★ ♥ 20:34, 11 May 2023 (UTC)

- Comment Warning: The proposal states "Represents" "Mastodon instance (Q72705885)" - but that isn't true. It represents the URL of such an instance. 89.14.237.54 19:14, 23 March 2023 (UTC)
