relevant date for copyright
[edit]Originally proposed at Wikidata:Property proposal/Creative work
Motivation
[edit]It's currently very very difficult to derive a template content of the format "this work is in the public domain in PMA XX countries because the author died in YYYY".
See: Help_talk:Copyrights#Qualifying_a_copyright_claim_with_the_relevant_date for more details on why this is very hard to calculate from existing data.
This date would be use to qualify any copyright status that depends on a date. For example:
- any work published before over 95 years ago in the US would put their publication date.
- for claims in PMA jurisdictions, it would be the date of death of the last author with a copyright claim on the work (could be author, editor, illustrator, translator, etc.)
See also: copyright-adjacent property proposal for the renewal IDs for US works: Wikidata:Property proposal/copyright registration.

- Comment From the samples, it seems this should be as a qualifier only. Can this be mentioned in |description= and |domain= of the proposal as well? Sample: "(qualifier)" and "|domain=qualifier of copyright status (P6216)" ? --- Jura 11:40, 16 September 2021 (UTC)
- @Jura1: Done (the examples already listed is as a qualifier, but I reformatted it). Inductiveload (talk) 20:29, 19 September 2021 (UTC)
