Task/s: Update the population for "commune of France" with official data of 1st January 2019 (latest available, released one month ago)
Code: https://github.com/LeMyst/wd-population
Function details:
- Got data from INSEE https://www.insee.fr/fr/statistiques/6011075
- For each commune, found the related entity on Wikidata with the API (with instance of (P31) as commune of France (Q484170), country (P17) as France (Q142) and INSEE municipality code (P374))
- Test if the information is already here or not (from population number and qualifier)
- If not present, update the element with the new data
- loop

- Looks good though you optimally your bot would handle ranks properly. BrokenSegue (talk) 01:30, 7 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

- Comment How does your bot handle ranks? For instance, here, your bot adds the population for 2019, while population for 2018 is at preferred rank. Shouldn't your bot also swap the ranks? — Envlh (talk) 19:31, 6 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
- In my opinion, all ranks should be "normal" with no "preferred" rank, because each population has its own qualifier with the date. Maybe if there are several populations for the same year (different methods, etc.) a rank would be useful. So I have deliberately not defined the rank or updated the other ranks, but I would be happy if someone shares their opinion on this. Myst (talk) 21:45, 7 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
- After reading Help:Ranking, it seems I'm completly wrong on the method of ranking. I'll update the bot to remove the previous preferred rank and set 2019 with it. I think I mixed up deprecated and preferred, as you should not put everything in deprecated for old data. Myst (talk) 21:57, 7 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
- I updated the bot with the changes for the rank (removed all previous preferred rank, set 2019 as preferred) Myst (talk) 22:57, 7 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
- Support with this change. Thank you! — Envlh (talk) 07:03, 8 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

- I am going to app[rove the bot in a couple of days provided no objections have been made.--Ymblanter (talk) 20:00, 9 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
