Motivation[edit]

GISAID (https://www.gisaid.org/) is a system for promoting the rapid sharing of virus data, including for influenza and SARS-CoV-2 viruses. It assigns identifiers for individual virus clades. WikiProject Taxonomy has more than 50 participants and couldn't be pinged. Please post on the WikiProject's talk page instead. This would be very useful right now, as tracking SARS-Cov-2 variants is a live subject right now; this can also be extended to tracking other infectious virus clades, per the GISAID mission statement. -- The Anome (talk) 09:49, 27 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
