Wikidata talk:Guide to requests for undeletion

I think these deletion reasons deserve separate sections:

  • "Spam/advertising": the issue here is often that there are references to external sources, but they are the wrong ones/not "serious" (meaning somehow under control of the subject themselves, unclear user-generated content, or plain promotional stuff). The creator usually has some relationship with the entity described in the deleted item.
  • "does not meet the notability policy" usually applies to cases where the editor does not have a relationship to the entity, but the problem is more of technical nature: something that implies notability has been forgotten during the editing process, or the notability situation has changed for the item (e.g. all sitelinks were deleted), and so on.
  • "out of project scope" is rare in main namespace to my experience. Maybe it does not need to be listed here at all.

I am deleting many of the "does not meet the notability policy" cases and receive undeletion requests regularly, and I find it relatively easy to moderate them (usually by restoring the items without much discussion since the situation is clear). A typical discussion with a spammer/advertiser is from my experience much more difficult, since one needs to convince them that this is not their project unless they provide proper serious sources which they often can't. —MisterSynergy (talk) 10:33, 16 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

  • "Any other unhelpful behaviour such as repurposing of items will also be viewed with suspicion." I feel like this is a bit too mild. It's probably better to point out that repurposing items is against the site rules and is considered spam
  • A lot of times the author will create sitelinks to justify notability and then work against any attempt by WD editors to nominate said page for deletion by repeatedly the template. It would be nice if the guide would adress this --Trade (talk) 14:43, 16 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@MisterSynergy, Trade: I combined the reasons and expressed things fairly tersely because I feel such documents work better when they're as short as possible. But please feel free to go ahead and fix it. Bovlb (talk) 21:35, 16 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
