Motivation[edit]

Wikidata is growing as a life sciences resource. It has terms for biological concepts at the species level and more general terms (see examples above). Using subclass of (P279) works, but it is a generic property. A more specific subproperty would make Wikidata cleaner and allow targeted queries.

As an example, parent taxon (P171) is an analagous subproperty of subclass of (P279) that fills a similar gap.
