External Wiki ID

Motivation

[edit]

This is a generic version of Gamepedia wiki ID (P6867) and Fandom wiki ID (P4073) which allows for us to link items which represent Wikis to their subject (essentially a reverse of main subject (P921) for wikis). It can also be used as a qualifier for External Wiki URL below. I previously suggested a similar property for only MediaWiki wikis, but there was opposition based on its limited scope. –MJLTauk 17:55, 20 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Question What does this suggested property do that can not be done with described by source (P1343)? /ℇsquilo 10:13, 24 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
The use case for this proposed property is not exactly the same as described by source. External wikis should not be used as a reference as described by source (P1343) implies. In many cases, this would also be similar to official website (P856) depending on the wiki and subject. –MJLTauk 17:09, 24 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Motivation

[edit]

This is to go along with the above proposal. Essentially, if External Wiki ID is not added as a qualifier, then title (P1476), software engine (P408) (which must be a wiki software (Q6686945)), and language of work or name (P407) should be mandatory instead. If software engine (P408) is MediaWiki (Q83), then MediaWiki page ID (P9675) is suggested. The goal of these two properties is to be able to locate information from external wikis without requiring a new property for each site. –MJLTauk 17:55, 20 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Oppose I think this is covered with described by source (P1343) and URL (P2699). That is more generic and does not require the external source to be a wiki. /ℇsquilo 10:15, 24 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Esquilo: Wikis are user edit-able, so the location in the URL is subject to frequent change (depending on the wiki). This property would allow us to use MediaWiki page ID (P9675) to a fuller extent. Additionally, it would help us keep track of which wikis contain what information (which is useful for things like imports). –MJLTauk 17:07, 24 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
