Hi! Can you please create a Qualifier properties template? Information is spread over all: Help:Statements#Qualifiers, Wikidata:Books_task_force#Qualifiers, etc. BTW: Wikidata:List of properties/Summary table is broken. gangLeri לערי ריינהארט (talk) 09:40, 22 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Updates as part of documentation overhaul[edit]

Hi all,

I recently made some edits to Help:Qualifiers as part of a larger sitewide documentation overhaul (more info on this here).

To compare my edits with the previous version please see the diffs here

Major changes include the following:

  • provided more introductory content on what qualifiers do/are for
  • modified/moved content so there are now some guiding principles for using qualifiers instead of just examples
  • added more to examples; got rid of examples that aren't currently possible/supported by data types in Wikidata
  • added screenshots on how to add qualifiers
  • removed technical jargon (i.e. "triples" - not really mentioned elsewhere in the documentation)

Please let me know if you have any concerns about these changes or suggestions on further improving the documentation. If you see something wrong (like a typo) or something that could be easily improved upon (like an example, confusing wording, or a label for a screenshot), please just go ahead and fix it - no need to comment here first!

Thanks. -Thepwnco (talk) 18:39, 2 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I have one important issue: Please do never ever change the numbering of the translate tags unless it is absolutely necessary. You can add, delete or move whole sections, you can update or whatever you wish and it will be ok, but with renumbering you destroy all work that has been made by translators in any given language. For example: a given page has 10 sections and you add just one sentence as a newe section in the beginning and renumber all the other sections, all the translations made in any language are discarded and the pages appear untranslated. Even more: the old translations are connected to another section that does not fit and the former translation can not be identified. This happens to all translation in all languages so the trouble will be multiplied twohundered times. It hits especialy hard in laguages that have only few translators or the only translator has left the project for any reason. The page will not have any translation at all in this language for a long time. In this example it is an easy thing just to add section 11 in front of section 1 and all translations are kept, any translator just has to translate section 11 to keep the translation up to date. So please return to the old numbering, regardless of the ordering.--Giftzwerg 88 (talk) 12:27, 13 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

In Ian Stevenson (Q731300) is used occupation (P106) -> scientist (Q901). Is it ok to use field of work (P101) as a Qualifier? Thank you, Conny (talk) 10:34, 21 February 2015 (UTC).[reply]

Missing information about no/unknown value[edit]

It should be noted qualifiers can also have "no value" or "unknown value". -- JakobVoss (talk) 10:35, 1 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Plural qualifiers[edit]

I ran into this thing where I can add length of time (Q97190145) in minuttes. Its pretty straight forward as I can choose fx. "minute" as a unit. Is there a way to display the unit as a plural form (minutes)? --Ascaaear (talk) 00:25, 27 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

No. This site is mostly for saving data, not presenting them, so I don't expect this to be ever fixed. Maybe it would be less complex to "fix" it by showing the unit symbol, but this doesn't work either. --Matěj Suchánek (talk) 09:59, 28 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
