Constraint P106 Q19839393

[edit]

Hi y'all,

I'm wondering: is the constraint occupation (P106) preface author (Q19839393) really a good idea? I mean preface author (Q19839393) is not really a occupation (P106), only stricto sensu or anecdotically, these people are not "known" to be preface author (Q19839393) and it would be hard to find a reference for that.

Meanwhile, for the numbers, for 426 uses of this property there is 389 constraint violations… Obviously, we can add the occupation (P106) automatically but that brings us back to my first point, is it really something we want?

I think the constraint is wrong and unneeded. Being preface author (Q19839393) is most often an accidental activity. Ankry (talk) 08:17, 25 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, every one !
I do think the same that Ankry : being a "prefacier" is most often an accidental activity. For myself, you can take it off. Thanks a lot. --Ambre Troizat (talk) 17:55, 2 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I agree that preface author (Q19839393) should not be considered as an occupation (P106). The property occupation (P106) should be used for something that made the person notable by the sources, not something that is anecdotal. — Envlh (talk) 14:13, 13 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Manu1400, Ankry, Ambre Troizat, Envlh: in 2+ weeks: 3 in favor, 0 opposition; I removed this constraint. Cheers, VIGNERON (talk) 09:31, 14 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Consolidation into P50?

[edit]

This property strikes me a s a little over-specialised. There are many parts of a book or other text that may have a specific author (some books will have different authors for each chapter). Would it not be more versatile to use author (P50) with the qualifier that it applies to part (P518) foreword (Q1358138)? T.Shafee(evo&evo) (talk) 02:56, 18 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
