This property appears to be have been created without any regard to statements I've made, repeatedly, at the proposal stage. One cannot simply create a property for a sports team "manager" as that term is woefully ambiguous. In European soccer, and elsewhere, it seems to refer to what we in North America would call a en:Head coach. I'm sure it would inevitably be confused with en:General manager (American football), en:General manager (basketball), en:General manager (baseball) and en:General manager (ice hockey) -- in other words, all North American major league sports -- which is often shortened to simply "manager," and is a different post entirely. I've tried to disambiguate the description somewhat; feel free to improve on it. Shawn in Montreal (talk) 17:38, 13 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

  • I've also modified the French label to " entraîneur en chef," to disambiguate from coaches that are not head coaches. But that may be judged too Quebecois (it is widely used in the League nationale du hockey) by those of you from France. I am by no means an expert in French.     • Hello, I think that in non-Quebec French, en chef is not used in this circumstance, for exemple, the page fr:Entraîneur don't use en chef and to talk about other coaches, entraîneur adjoint is used. --Fawkes d 21:18, 13 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
      • Another problem is, the French definition now does not match the English. This property in English cannot be used for people who train animals. A head coach or manager is not the same as a "trainer,' as it apparently is en francais. But additionally, I'd personally find the idea of a shared property for a sports trainer and animal trainer offensive and inaccurate. In Wikipedia we avoid grouping things be shared names, and in this case I'd argue that that's what sharing this property according to the French ambiguity in the term would amount to. What about assistant coaches?[edit]

What should we do about assistant coaches, do they need a new property? Also at least the German and English description differ here, English says "team manager or head coach", German description simply says (translated) "coach". Though I guess we can use basketball coach (Q5137571)  View with Reasonator View with SQID or coach (Q41583)  View with Reasonator View with SQID in occupation (P106) View with SQID inside the items of such coaches. --Bthfan (talk) 23:38, 6 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
