Including conventional and organic PLUs[edit]

When this property was proposed, it was suggested that there was no need to store both the conventional and organic values (e.g. kohlrabi's PLU is 3096 and organic kohlrabi's PLU is 93096). In the future, the IFPS plans on assigning PLU codes utilizing the 83000 and 84000 series. According to them, "when this occurs, the 83000 series will be used to assign PLU codes for conventionally grown produce items and the 84000 series will be used to identify the corresponding organic item." I think we're going to want to list both the 83XXX and 84XXX values when this happens. I also think we should be including both the conventional and organic codes for each entry. While it might be intuitive for a human to think that the organic version simply appends a '9' to the beginning, an API searching PLU codes for a specific 5 digit string should return the correct entry. gobonobo + c 07:28, 14 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
