Constraints[edit]

I'm uploading the paintings of the Slovak National Gallery, see Wikidata:WikiProject sum of all paintings/Collection/Slovak National Gallery. I added some constraints here to improve the quality. @Marv1N: you proposed this property and seem to be working on it. Maybe you want to help improve? Do you happen to know some Slovak speakers by the way? Would be nice to get them involved. Multichill (talk) 10:54, 17 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I must admit, that I am based in Czechia (without of knowing anyone of slovak-speaking wikidatist). I proposed Web umenia as important database (informationaly and technicaly as well - after all National gallery of the Czech Republic started system sbirky.npgprague.cz based on Web umenia, cf. Myself: Portrait – Landscape (Q3319184) > [1], at the moment it hasn't identifiers for authors :,-() of visual work/artist (I think, that constraints of occupation - if You are asking this question - should be broad visual artists). I am also in brief conversation with admin of Web umenia and I hope, that he will provide some data(set), which can help to connect layer of creators. I am also thnking whether or not we need identifiers from Web umenia of works as a property? --marv1N (talk) 19:51, 17 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Marv1N: hmm, we'll find someone at some point. Looking at Category:User sk-N I recognize @Jklamo: maybe he wants to help.
http://sbirky.ngprague.cz is on my list too. They're not in https://www.europeana.eu/ , right? That would make it even easier. Not sure if a work property is useful, we can always propose it later. Do you know of any other galleries in Slovakia that have paintings in Web umenia? I could import those too.
I use https://tools.wmflabs.org/multichill/painters/index.php?collection=Q1744024 to create the missing painters, sorry, no manual yet. It's rough on the edges so be careful with it.
Wikidata:Database reports/Complex constraint violations/P4887 got created. It's quite easy to solve most of these. I already did a couple. By the way, quite a few of these people don't have a Slovak or Czech label. Can these just be copied from English? Multichill (talk) 15:00, 18 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, it seems that Webumenia is just one instance of lab.SNG platform (http://lab.sng.sk/), that is used by mulitple databases and institutions including some institutions from the Czech Republic - National Gallery Prague (Q1419555) (new one, but they have also old one), Moravian Gallery in Brno (Q3094617) (link), or just for some exhibitions (Museum of Czech Literature (Q5979897) Wenceslaus Hollar (Q448555) exhitibion. It is possible to create one work property for all lab.SNG projects, but I think it that separate property for each institution is more appropriate.
I am Category:User sk-N but as marvi1N I am based in the Czech Republic. @KuboF Hromoslav: is the only Slovakia-based wikidatian whom I know.--Jklamo (talk) 18:31, 19 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

With galleries within Webumenia, it is good point [2]:

--marv1N (talk) 16:11, 18 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

About names of artists: I know of two issues: with "the Elder/staršie=st." etc. parts of names (for each language different) and there is sometimes rivality between hungarian and slovak names (László Mednyánszky (Q652975): Ladislav Mednyánszky vs. László Mednyánszky [vs. Czech Ladislav Medňanský]). I noticed Complex constraint violations and Georg Braun (Q77709) is Cartographer and it is violation - Is it possible to "fix" it? --marv1N (talk) 19:40, 18 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Jklamo, Marv1N: So replying to different things. Could you expand Wikidata:WikiProject sum of all paintings/Location/Czech Republic and Wikidata:WikiProject sum of all paintings/Location/Slovakia with interesting painting collections? I just updated Wikidata:WikiProject sum of all paintings/Location/Hungary so you can use that as an example. A deeplink to the query for paintings is very useful to include.
With competing names I just add all the variants as aliases, that will also help the different bots to pick it up.
As for the constraint violations, that one needs a bit more tweaking. Our occupation tree still contains quite a few glitches. Reports like these help to find them and improve it. Multichill (talk) 12:29, 26 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Multichill: To "Slovakia" has been transered rest of galleries from Web umenia (for start). In Czech case - is there any use for being participant in Google Arts and Culture (for example Regional Gallery of Liberec (Q12041925) has paintings and also some of them at GAC)? --marv1N (talk) 15:20, 29 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Marv1N: thanks for updating, I tweaked Wikidata:WikiProject sum of all paintings/Location/Slovakia. Can you double check? I will import all of these and the images of the CC0 ones.
Currently the only advantage here of the Google thing is probably that we'll have good images for the paintings. Multichill (talk) 10:27, 30 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Marv1N: fired up the import of all the paintings. Should index about 15.000 paintings (13.000 new ones) with about 3000 images for Commons. Multichill (talk) 15:26, 31 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Also imported the missing painters (and caused some duplicates in the process, ooops!). Multichill (talk) 20:02, 11 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks :-). Connecting names with WD items is sometimes real detective work indeed. --marv1N (talk) 20:59, 12 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
