Change it to 'website account on' ?[edit]

So that we can have: Jimmy Wales (Q181) website account on (P553) Wikipedia (Q52) website username or ID (P554) Jimbo Wales. --GZWDer (talk) 10:06, 13 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Support using it for Wikipedia accounts. Not sure it is really needed to change the name.I guess Wikipedia can be considered a social network (or maybe not, but we dont want the property to be used for all sorts of accounts, like "i have an account on the website of my bank"). --Zolo (talk) 16:53, 10 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]
That said, global account for all Wikimedia projects are supposed to be deployed soon, I guess it makes sense to wait, until then, so that we dont need one statement per project. --Zolo (talk) 17:14, 10 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Use this property for Wikipedia accounts ?[edit]

This property is seemingly meant for communication media (though Facebook and Twitter and the like have their own properties). Today there are violations reported because it was used to report Wikipedia accounts: P533=Wikipedia (Q52) qualified with website username or ID (P554)= <account name>. Either:

I'd say that if Facebook and Twitter are able to have properties for username, then Wikipedia (or indeed any other website that has sufficient 'scale' to bother creating a separate property) should have its own as well. That is - I support your third option. Wittylama (talk) 12:33, 10 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

    Query showing usage by site[edit]

    Here's a handy query.

As of today, the top ten uses are:

    1. YouTube (Q866) = 887 uses (YouTube channel ID (P2397) may be useful)
    2. LiveJournal (Q219523) = 302 (see Wikidata:Property proposal/LiveJournal)
    3. Myspace (Q40629) = 198 (see Wikidata:Property proposal/MySpace ID)
    4. Flickr (Q103204) = 129
    5. Ameblo (Q17988469) = 78
    6. Odnoklassniki (Q1123836) = 73
    7. My World@Mail.Ru (Q4299858) = 72
    8. Tumblr (Q384060) = 66
    9. Pinterest (Q255381) = 61
    10. Vimeo (Q156376) = 56

Figures from July 2015 may be seen at User:Pigsonthewing/websites. Numbers have reduced with the recent creation of, and transfer of values to, properties like P2035 (P2035), SoundCloud ID (P3040), VK ID (P3185), and Last.fm ID (P3192). The eleventh-most used item, currently, is Wikipedia (Q52), but the various WMF projects used include:

    1. Wikipedia (Q52) = 54
    2. Wikidata (Q2013) = 7
    3. Wikimedia Commons (Q565) = 4
    4. Wikispecies (Q13679) = 4
    5. English Wikipedia (Q328) = 2

plus another 14 projects with one use each. Given the number of people listed at en:Wikipedia:Wikipedians with articles alone, this is a considerable under-representation, even if we exclude those which are not either self-identified or reliably sourced. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 18:49, 27 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

    Update 2017-05-11[edit]

Top ten (+2 to replace those with properties) is currently:

    1. Tumblr (Q384060) = 119 (Update: Tumblr username (P3943) should be used)
    2. Pinterest (Q255381) = 76 (Pinterest username (P3836) should be used)
    3. Odnoklassniki (Q1123836) = 76
    4. My World@Mail.Ru (Q4299858) = 72
    5. Vimeo (Q156376) = 68
    6. Wikipedia (Q52) = 63
    7. Quora (Q51711) = 42
    8. PromoDj (Q17117201) = 28
    9. Weibo (Q92526) = 23 (Weibo user ID (P3579) should be used)
    10. LinkedIn (Q213660) = 20 (for individuals, P2035 (P2035) should be used)
    11. Reddit (Q1136) = 17
    12. Viadeo (Q181592) = 16

A proposal for Tumblr IDs is open at Wikidata:Property proposal/Tumblr ID. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 20:18, 11 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

    Update 2017-08-25[edit]

Some good work has been done to move values to individual properties; thanks to those who helped. The current top ten is:

    1. Odnoklassniki (Q1123836) = 77
    2. My World@Mail.Ru (Q4299858) = 73
    3. Quora (Q51711) = 57
    4. YouTube (Q866) = 28 (YouTube channel ID (P2397) is available)
    5. PromoDj (Q17117201) = 28
    6. Viadeo (Q181592) = 16
    7. proza.ru (Q4380129) = 14
    8. stihi.ru (Q4442644) = 14
    9. Blogger (Q171186) = 13
    10. LinkedIn (Q213660) / Bandcamp (Q545966) / about.me (Q3595053) = 12 (each)

We could do with a Russian-speaker to advise on property proposals for the first two of those.

Interestingly, the number of values for Reddit (Q1136) has dropped from 16 to 11. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 17:53, 25 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

    Update 2017-10-20[edit]

    The top five are now:

    1. Quora (Q51711) = 83
    2. Odnoklassniki (Q1123836) = 78
    3. My World@Mail.Ru (Q4299858) = 74
    4. YouTube (Q866) = 38 (YouTube channel ID (P2397) is available)
    5. PromoDj (Q17117201) = 28

with everything else having fewer than 20 occurrences. A property for Quora user IDs should be created shorty; and we still need a Russian speaker to advise on Odnoklassniki (Q1123836) and My World@Mail.Ru (Q4299858). Extend property to external IDs[edit]

Hi, I was rollbacked because this property is used just for accounts. I'd like to extend this property and website username or ID (P554) even to IDs in order to add the information that was (correctly) rollbacked. Otherwise I'll propose other two (IMHO redundant) properties like this one and website username or ID (P554) but for IDs. -- ★ → Airon 90 15:26, 15 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

You're not clear enough, sadly. Sjoerd de Bruin (talk) 19:12, 15 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@Sjoerddebruin: By now you can enter a statement about a general account with website account on (P553) and website username or ID (P554). There are more specific properties about accounts, like Facebook username (P2013) and Twitter (X) username (P2002). I created a statement with website account on (P553) and website username or ID (P554) about a general identifier (not about an account but about a page) but Pigsonthewing rollbacked me.
I propose to adapt website account on (P553) and website username or ID (P554) to general identifier too or to create two properties about general identifier, as right now there are many properties about identifier, like Spotify album ID (P2205) and NL CR AUT ID (P691). Am I clear enough now? :) -- ★ → Airon 90 05:49, 16 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

    Delete this property?[edit]

Only ~800 values are remaining after moving to Facebook username (P2013) like properties. Are we need this property now? Remaining values do not have formatter URLs, format constraints and etc. Properties like described at URL (P973), official blog URL (P1581) can be used instead. — Ivan A. Krestinin (talk) 19:03, 11 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I think "~800" is more than enough justification for keeping it. Neither described at URL (P973) nor official blog URL (P1581) are suitable for Wikimedia accounts, for instance. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 20:14, 11 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

How to insert WeChat (Q283233) ID[edit]

Like Sina weibo, this Chinese-made mobile SNS is also used around the world more and more, however for me, adding users of WeChat (Q283233) does require a QR code (Q12203) and I can't believe that this property can handle that. Should I request another property? Maybe a new datatype needed? Or there has an API available to just show that in browser? --Liuxinyu970226 (talk) 02:05, 26 August 2017 (UTC) The Japanese-made Line (Q602471) is ditto problem. --Liuxinyu970226 (talk) 02:05, 26 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

    YouTube[edit]

I've split http://www.wikidata.org/entity/statement/P553-0317fd58-43a6-f02e-1d42-e3cd9d12f64b from http://www.wikidata.org/entity/statement/P553-20B29ED9-B4C1-452F-9DE5-08157D3E53A7 to account for legacy YouTube URLs, such as https://www.youtube.com/user/AramcoVideo or https://www.youtube.com/c/extrastores. Those aren't channels or don't have a (modern) channel ID and can thus only be entered using website account on (P553). This cleanup query can be used to find statements which haven't yet been checked to follow this convention. --Azertus (talk) 14:04, 26 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

How can we go about building a quick insertor?[edit]

I think it'd be nice is there was a page we could put in a URL such as

    https://nebula.app/simonclark

and a Q code for it, and it returns a set of quick statements to insert standard values such as

    website account on Nebula Q108559489

    website username simonclark

    URL https://nebula.app/simonclark

point in time 15 August 2022

Who/how would create this though? Back ache (talk) 14:30, 15 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I've been considering this for Wikidata for Web. I'd only let users add a website account on (P553) statement and a URL (P2699) qualifier with the current url. I would limit the function to sites in this list:
    SELECT ?serivce ?serivceLabel ?url WHERE {
      SERVICE wikibase:label { bd:serviceParam wikibase:language "[AUTO_LANGUAGE],en". }
      wd:P553 p:P2302 ?cst.
      ?cst ps:P2302 wd:Q21510865.
      ?cst pq:P2308 ?class.
      ?serivce wdt:P31 ?class.
      ?serivce wdt:P856 ?url. }

    Try it!
But I'd like to narrow this list to services where it really makes sense. Maybe we add a statement like has characteristic (P1552) public account (Q113622760)
to all services that actually offer them? What do you think? – Shisma (talk) 18:07, 25 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
