[Edward Henry Carr was] one of the principal founders of Ridley Hall; the idea of establishing a Theological College for graduate candidates for Holy Orders originated with him, and he successfully interested others in the scheme, notably his former tuitor Bishop Perry, who subsequently took a leading part in the undertaking.
