Basic bibliographic data[edit]

@Gamaliel: You referenced this item in dozens of other items, yet it’s missing the most basic bibliographic data, like author/editor, publisher, publication date and ISBN (if it has any). Without them, these statements are practically unsourced, which is especially worrying as they are sometimes decades off of other sources’ data (e.g. for Gisela of Hungary (Q232039), you stated that she died in 1033, while other sources state a date 32 years later). Please add the basic bibliographic data so that we can keep these statements at least as non-best ones (i.e. marking other statements preferred). —Tacsipacsi (talk) 14:42, 3 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I’ll help with this right now. Innisfree987 (talk) 21:21, 3 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Tacsipacsi, I think I’ve added what you asked for and a few other details I could think of but if anything else would be helpful, I’m happy to see if I can find more. Innisfree987 (talk) 21:36, 3 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Innisfree987: Thanks, this is more than what I wished for. Unfortunately I couldn’t find it in any Hungarian library based on its ISBN, so I can’t confirm why the dates differ so much, but at least someone living at a luckier place is now able to do so. —Tacsipacsi (talk) 00:47, 4 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@ Tacsipacsi: Happy to help! Have you applied for the electronic resources at https://wikipedialibrary.wmflabs.org/about/? They have a full digital copy you could look at, I can show you how. (Or once you’re logged in, it might work to just click here.) I also began an entry on English Wikipedia (now linked to the WD page) to show there were some scholarly reviews of the dictionary; I’ve only just started the entry so it isn’t fully fleshed out yet but the reviews are pretty favorable. @Tacsipacsi: We've found some errors - or more accurately some contradictions with other sources - in this work but it's otherwise very valuable for identifying historical figures. Many of the entries are available at encyclopedia.com (random example: https://www.encyclopedia.com/women/dictionaries-thesauruses-pictures-and-press-releases/fields-crystal-1969) and we have copies of the ebook if you need to look at any of the entries not available online. @Innisfree987, Gamaliel: Thanks for the links! Innisfree987’s link worked (even without logging in — should we maybe add it as full work available at URL (P953)?), and it really states that Gisela died in 1033—which is hard to believe as the Wikipedia articles in English, Hungarian and German all write about what she did after her husband’s 1038 death… (I didn’t want to register for the Wikipedia Library, as I very rarely need online access, and even when I do, I can usually use my university access.) —Tacsipacsi (talk) 22:52, 4 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Oops! I’m thinking the working link is probably an error and better not to add the link; as I understand it, it’s meant to be licensed access. Meanwhile I’m afraid I don’t have an explanation for that particular date discrepancy, but I see that entry refers the reader to Women in World History, a 17-volume work that covers many of the DoWW bios in more detail. In this case, that entry is viewable at: https://www.encyclopedia.com/women/encyclopedias-almanacs-transcripts-and-maps/gisela-bavaria-c-975-1033. I’m really not familiar with the context but perhaps the additional details would give researchers more to work with. Innisfree987 (talk) 23:31, 4 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
