Who is giving the stars? Where's the provenance for this?[edit]
The original star-rating system was started by Forbes Travel Guide in the 1950s. Since then, several different evaluating bodies have assigned stars, so it's important to check who the evaluator is and what its system entails. For instance, in the U.S., Forbes is still one of the leading star-assigning bodies, as is AAA (who uses a 5 Diamond system now https://www.aaa.com/travelguides/hotels/New%20York-NY). In the U.K., tourist authorities such as VisitBritain and VisitScotland are in charge.
To that end, I think usage of qualifiers should be strongly encouraged - see discussion on https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Property_talk:P10290 Thadguidry (talk) 16:56, 31 January 2022 (UTC)
- Star ratings meanings differ by country and region. But usually there is an authority behind it. Germartin1 (talk) 02:22, 1 February 2022 (UTC)
