Rationale for this class[edit]

The need for this class item was established by the Linked Open Data Ecosystem for the Performing Arts (LODEPA) Working Group at meetups held on December 15, 2022 (minutes) and March 16, 2023 (minutes). Discussion began when members of the group noted the existence of a class item describing the concept of "variety show" on television but none describing the concept of variety show in the live performing arts where the art form originated. The group put together a small task force to discuss and research the concept more deeply. This research revealed that the concept was well described in several authority files and in wikipedias.

The LODEPA Working Group has been meeting quarterly since 2020 to discuss modelling issues pertaining to the performing arts. The working group maintains the Wikidata:WikiProject Performing arts and the Wikidata:WikiProject Cultural venues. Fjjulien (talk) 01:26, 21 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
