'Painting' is a to narrow object class for this item[edit]
Hey Coyau and Oursana!
I am not sure if things around genres are well organized in Wikidata at the moment and if it is useful to have this item at all. However, I do not think it is useful to narrow this item down to paintings. The current meaning concerns drawings in the same way, doesn't it? I propose to exchange everything referring to 'painting' with something like 'imaging work'@en/'abbildendes Werk'@de! --Marsupium (talk) 10:01, 20 July 2014 (UTC)
Problem of modelling sub-genres[edit]
How do you propose to model sub-genres? The current statements like floral painting (Q17279581)subclass of (P279)still life (Q170571) (there are analog ones for the other instance of (P31)genre of painting (Q16743958)-items) is not allowed as long as floral painting (Q17279581) has a instance of (P31)-statement, cf. Help:Basic membership properties. I propose to handle all theses genres as object classes and use them as range for instance of (P31) rather than for genre (P136).
Otherwise either the instance of (P31)genre of painting (Q16743958)-statements have to be removed or the subclass of (P279)-classification has to be replaced by a classification with a new "sub-genre"-property (though I do not think that this last is a good idea). What to do? --Marsupium (talk) 10:01, 20 July 2014 (UTC)
