I don't think that we need a profession to be recognized officially to be allowed to assign it to a person. For example, prostitution is not recognized as a profession in many countries, but it provides the only income to many people. The questions, that we have to ask, are: Did he spend a big amount of time on it? What activity was he recognized for? What was he best in?
