GNU or all[edit]
It is not clear if the item should be for all Emacsen, or only for GNU Emacs. License information probably applies only to GNU Emacs. --AVRS (talk) 20:11, 12 August 2013 (UTC)
- The english label says "GNU Emacs", so I assumed this item was for GNU Emacs... however, in most other languages, it's simply Emacs, and there's also Q1252773 for the few wikis that make the distinction with separate articles. I removed the GPLv3 claim again and updated the other item. Should we change "instance of" to "subclass of"? --DSGalaktos (talk) 17:25, 13 August 2013 (UTC)
- I’ve removed some GNU Emacs-specific statements; this item is now only about the class of text editors. —DSGalaktos (talk) 13:46, 7 March 2015 (UTC)
People keep making this mistake, so let me be very clear:
This item is about the family of text editors. Do not add software version identifier (P348), instance of (P31)text editor (Q131212), or similar statements. Those belong on GNU Emacs (Q1252773). —DSGalaktos (talk) 10:41, 5 August 2015 (UTC)
- @TomT0m, Coyau, Frysch, Mutari-Dirk, Metamorforme42: I am very sorry y’all, but I had to remove your changes per the above. This item is a family of text editors. It cannot be an instance of anything. It cannot have a website, or a license, or a software version. Please add the statements to GNU Emacs (Q1252773) if they’re not already there. (I apologize especially to Metamorforme42 – these versions must’ve been a lot of work to add ☹) —Galaktos (talk) 01:39, 12 December 2015 (UTC)
- @Galaktos: Ok, you are right. I will add the statements to GNU Emacs and I have modified the french wikipedia version of Emacs, who had GNU Emacs infobox (it was the origin of my confusing). Thank. — Metamorforme42 (talk) 15:36, 12 December 2015 (UTC)
