Candidates[edit]
Notified participants of WikiProject electionsI removed several people previously listed as candidates, which was subsequently reverted by User:Jura1. These people were, at some point, candidates for their respective parties' nominations. They were not, however, ever candidates for US President. I checked the previous elections (2016, 2012, 2008) which are consistent on this.Matthias Winkelmann (talk) 19:37, 5 July 2020 (UTC)
- This doesn't really explain why you add people who haven't been nominated.
- Anyways, it doesn't really matter: candidates for this office generally participate in party nominations. Most if not all were even registered as candidates with the FEC. We don't rewrite history just because some formality is or hasn't been completed or the date comes closer. --- Jura 19:43, 5 July 2020 (UTC)
- These people never were candidates for US President. They were Candidate for the Republican/Democratic/Green/etc. Nomination. There's a difference. Check https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Minor_party_and_independent_candidates_for_the_2020_United_States_presidential_election#Withdrawn_candidates and note the absence of these people even among the list of withdrawn candidates. (I did indeed err in removing Sanders and Warren, apparently, who were apparently nominated by minor parties at some point).
- The parties' nomination contests have their own items, such Q38051551. You will not that it lists "presidential candidate" as the "office contested", meaning these people do not have that status, but merely seek it.Matthias Winkelmann (talk) 19:51, 5 July 2020 (UTC)
- and what do you make of the FEC registration? --- Jura 20:10, 5 July 2020 (UTC)
- The FEC lists >1,100 candidates for the 2020 Presidential election. Most of them will never appear on any state’s ballot. Should they all be listed? Matthias Winkelmann (talk) 23:34, 5 July 2020 (UTC)
- The question here is why you deleted people listed there from this item. If FEC and WP considers them as candidates, why would you delete them? I currently have no opinion on the others. --- Jura 20:27, 6 July 2020 (UTC)

- I have deleted lots of them who were candidates for primary nominations, but not for presidents, because they weren't candidates for president in any given moment. -Theklan (talk) 15:24, 13 April 2021 (UTC)
- If they registered for that, it's clear they were candidates. Why remove valid structured information from Wikidata while it's present in an unstructured way in Wikipedia? --- Jura 15:52, 13 April 2021 (UTC)

P1268 vs P4353.... & P102[edit]
Hi, @Jura1, @User:Matthias Winkelmann. This is a question to understand the structure, NOT to change this item.
When or why to use as candidate (P726) qualifiers the represents (P1268) or nominated by (P4353) ?.
Does the use of member of political party (P102) make unnecessary these other qualifiers?.
Thanks a lot Amadalvarez (talk) 06:14, 27 August 2022 (UTC)
