Synonyms
[edit]Why were there a dozens of English terms entered as Assamese synonyms, including terms such as “fuel industry”?! I mean, there are lots of words entered as synonyms in many languages which are not full synonyms, but “fuel industry”? “Fuel industry”?! Come on... I did a clean up of the most messy entrys (i.e. the Assamese and Macedonian synonyms list, the latter containing more than 80(!) terms for “coal” in more than 80 different languages(!))... --Gretarsson (talk) 15:50, 4 April 2019 (UTC)
German synonym “Cöllnische Erde”
[edit]The term “Cöllnische Erde” can be found in a German Encyclopedia titled Oekonomische Encyklopädie which dates back to the 18th and 19th century. Therein, “Cöllnische Erde” refers to “Umbra” under which Cöllnische Erde is described as “theils hell, theils dunkelbraun aussehende, leicht abfärbende mürbe Erde. Sie mag durch Verwitterung von unterirdischem Holze, welches von Erdharz durchdrungen ist, entstanden sein; also eine Art Erdkohle, welche ebenfalls als Malerfarbe gebraucht wird.” [1]. Hence it appears to be some sort of lignite which would be not a full synonym of “coal” but at most a synonym of “lignite”. Hence I have removed it from the synonyms list. Actually there are no commonly used full synonyms for the collective term “Kohle” in German language. --Gretarsson (talk) 15:50, 4 April 2019 (UTC)
