This deals with the domesticated yak and the wild yak. If these are regarded as two separate species, then these are to be called Bos grunniens Linnaeus, 1766 and Bos mutus (Przewalski, 1883). If these are regarded as belonging to a single species, these normally would have to be called by the oldest name, but the ICZN gave a ruling that the name for the wild species is to be used instead.

Thus, if these two yaks are regarded as one species, it is to be called Bos mutus (Przewalski, 1883). If these two yaks are regarded as two subspecies, these are to be called Bos mutus grunniens Linnaeus, 1766 and Bos mutus mutus (Przewalski, 1883). - Brya (talk) 16:36, 10 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
