performer[edit]

@Sintakso: Does it really make sense to have a statement Toccata and Fugue in D minor, BWV 565 (Q392734)performer (P175)Kevin MacLeod (Q16731782) (diff)? He’s hardly the only notable performer of this composition, after all. —Galaktos (talk) 23:17, 19 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Galaktos: I believe it does, since the statement merely indicates that Kevin MacLeod (Q16731782) is one of the performers of the composition. The fact that there are many others that are not yet stated in the item shouldn't probably invalidate the claim, it just means that some further work is needed for the claims to be fully descriptive of the performers. @Sintakso, Sintakso-2: But that’s not what performer (P175) is for. According to its description, it records an “actor, musician, band or other performer associated with this role or musical work”. Neither is Kevin MacLeod (Q16731782) particularly associated with this work, nor is the work particularly associated with him. The particular recording, Q85104551, is of course associated with him, but it’s quite enough to record that using a statement on that item. --Galaktos (talk) 23:50, 20 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Galaktos: I would think that Kevin MacLeod (Q16731782) is associated with this item, as he is the author of a recording of this composition. Additionally, the use of performer (P175) to list the different performers and associated recordings of a given song doesn't seem to be particularly rare as can be seen on the results of this query. For instance, the performers of the different cover versions of It's All in the Game (Q942797) are also stated using the performer (P175) property. Sintakso (talk) 22:01, 21 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
