How should this be used?[edit]
Special:WhatLinksHere/Q414528 indicates that this entity is modeled in a wide variety of ways, including
- Mieke Bal (Q274415)occupation (P106)academician (Q414528) - Probably an error and should be occupation (P106)academic (Q3400985), but is definitely improper modeling for academician (Q414528).
- Pieter Helbert Damsté (Q25693)academic degree (P512)academician (Q414528) - seems wrong, but may be this reflects historical or other cultural usage I'm not familiar with?
- Albert Einstein (Q937)professorship (P803)academician (Q414528) - I'm unsure about best practices for professorship (P803) in general.
- Andrei Sakharov (Q997)member of (P463)Academy of Sciences of the USSR (Q2370801)
subject has role (P2868)academician (Q414528) - Victor Cherbuliez (Q116258)position held (P39)academician (Q414528)
The last two options seem best to me. What do others think? Should some of these be forbidden by constraints or fixed by bots? If multiple ways of modeling this item seem acceptable, how should an editor choose which one is most appropriate for a given item? Daask (talk) 15:33, 8 March 2021 (UTC)
- In Russian academy of sciences "академик" (more exactly, "действительный член" - real member) is a status which is given once and up to death. Quote: " Юридически титул «академик РАН» не считается учёным званием, но нередко его всё же указывают и трактуют подобным образом." so de jure it's not academic rank (Q486983) but de facto is. Moreover it can't be anything else from above list, I can prove. So the only choice is #3. As far as I know, French academy follows the same rule. --Infovarius (talk) 17:34, 10 March 2021 (UTC)
