Merge[edit]

You merged Moana Hotel (Q111393278), if you look at Wikipedia article, they seem to be two different entities. One is the hotel and the other the building. Germartin1 (talk) 06:52, 10 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Germartin1: I think that for all intents & purposes, Moana Hotel (Q5976838) & Moana Surfrider, A Westin Resort & Spa, Waikiki Beach (111393278) are clearly the same entity. Indeed, w:e:Moana Hotel has two sections, w:e:Moana Hotel#Moana Hotel & w:e:Moana Hotel#Moana Surfrider. I would accept that there would need to be two items if there where two articles, but Q111393278 did not point to any language article & is discussed as part of the English article.
  • Q111393278 had Moana Surfrider, A Westin Resort & Spa, Waikiki Beach as its label & Q5976838 had Moana Surfrider, A Westin Resort & Spa as an alias.
  • You automatically created Q111393278 by using OpenRefine & the Skyscanner hotel ID. I think care should be taken with automated edits to ensure they are linked or merged with existing items.
  • I am unaware of common instances on enwiki in which we disassociate a building with its additions or disassociate an organization running from a facility from that facility. Another similar example that I also recently visited would be Shangri La in Honolulu and The Shangri La Museum of Islamic Art, Culture & Design.
I am a former 14 year resident of Honolulu County. I can assure you that no one that I encountered on Oahu would semantically separate the Moana Hotel & the Moana Surfrider, A Westin Resort & Spa. It would be simply be splitting hairs to maintain that the hotel building and the complex of which it is part should be different entities. Peaceray (talk) 20:26, 10 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Fine, I agree with the merge. However often the building and hotel have different property values, inception (business vs historic building), size, number of rooms (could also differ between building and hotel). I have already tried to separate skyscrapers complexes and hotels, which unfortunately sometimes share the same name but are completely different entities.
