Rolex GMT-Master, GMT-Master II One of the most popular models in the Rolex family is the GMT Master collection and many believe that it is the best Rolex to buy. The first GMT Master wristwatch was introduced back in 1954 followed by a GMT Master II in 1989. The collection has been a huge success for the company as they gained immense popularity among professional pilots, jet-setters and Rolex luxury watch enthusiasts. The first Rolex GMT Master watch was the reference 6542. It has been more than 65 years since the watch was launched and the Swiss watch manufacturer has still managed to keep the design close to the original one. The reference 6542 is remembered by many watch enthusiasts and James Bond fans as the particular timepiece was seen on the wrist of Honor Blackman in the James Bond film Goldfinger. But why is it called the GMT Master? This is because the GMT Master series came with the GMT bezel and the GMT hand, which allowed users to set a second time independently. This works basically by rotating the bezel to a different position as it takes you to a different timezone. Out of the box, the bezel is set straight to 12 o’clock, which means the GMT hand is going to show the same time as the hour hand. But, as you move the bezel backward or forwards, you will be switching the time zone for the GMT hand. Currently, when you buy Rolex GMT Master II, it is available in Oystersteel, white gold and Everose gold. There is also a variant that is a combination of Oystersteel and Everose gold. You can further customize your watch with Black, Meteorite and Midnight Blue dials depending on the material of the watch that you chose.
