Newbie question[edit]

Hello. Having (re)written most of this over the last few years, I'm interested in working on the Enterprise and related topics at Wikidata. Question 1 of many: there are pretty distinct iterations of this ship across the various media: the ship in TOS, then totally redesigned for The Motion Picture ... and then a totally different timeline ship for the 2009 reboot ... and then a totally redesigned ship ship for Discovery that is ostensibly the same vessel from the 1960s. The Wikipedia article covers all of these as "the same" for a few in-universe and out-of-universe reasons. My actual question is: does it make sense to consider all those different flavors the same over here? In particular, is it appropriate at Wikidata to treat this ship as the same ship in the 2009 reboot? Thanks. I welcome any other guidance in terms of either things I can do better or things to be pointed toward where an extra set of hands would be helpful. EEMIV (talk) 14:33, 30 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

EEMIV I would say that USS Enterprise-D (Q845684) and USS Enterprise-D (Q3547392) are arguably the same thing. yet they are two items because the french and korean wikipedia have an article about this particular flavor of Enterprise. I'd say you can create as many flavors as you want depending on how much want to go into detail. Just remember to connect them to something that has notability --Shisma (talk) 18:47, 30 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
