Modifying the translatable pages[edit]

Hi,

when you modify the translatable pages (like here), please do not insert the T:XX tags. This is not needed because they are added automatically by the translation extension when a translation administrator marks the page for transation.

What is more important, please never change numbers in these tags. Otherwise, there will be a mess in translations. --Michgrig (talk) 09:00, 15 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Q15708456[edit]

Halllo Bigbossfarin,

You are requesting the removal of Schwedenhaus (Q15708456), but the target page of the merge is the same as the nominated page. Could you correct this?

Also: you may want to use the merge.js gadget from help page about merging. It has an option "Request deletion for extra items on RfD" to automatically place a request to delete the emptied page. This way of nominating makes it a lot easier for the admins to process the requests.

Deletion of statements prior to listing items for deletion[edit]

Hi Bigbossfarin,

Please avoid deleting accurate statements when listing items for deletion, as you have done at

This despite my reminder at https://www.wikidata.org/w/index.php?title=Wikidata:Requests_for_deletions&oldid=555430136#Q2556075

Items can be deleted even if there are statements on items.

@Jura1: Sorry, I will stop that. Greeting Bigbossfarin (talk) 09:29, 13 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Big numbers[edit]

Hello, I think you've made a mess with them. Actually, all named big numbers (like sixtillion and similar) are names that can denote different numbers (there are 2 scales for that: long scale (Q19202121) and short scale (Q19202120)), but you've deleted half of information and made a mess with some names. I don't know how to properly to model that. May be it makes sense to create separate items for numbers... --Infovarius (talk) 12:33, 27 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Infovarius! Could you give me an example where I made a mess?
If you take 10^36 (Q4587955) I have renamend the English label from sextillion to the neutral 10^36 with aliases undecillion (short) sextillion (long), so I did respect the 2 scales.
What a mess is: the sitlinkes of several English articles about number names. e.g. Billion is a disambiguation for 10^9 and 10^12 which is linked to a multitude of articels about the number in long scale (e.g. German, Spanish, French). But this is not my fault and a case for Wikidata:Interwiki conflicts. In these cases I would not look for what the English articles are about.
And I am sorry for changing asankhyeya (Q1196442), I was confused by numeric value (P1181). Thank you for the hint. Greetings --Bigbossfarin (talk) 13:12, 27 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, let's take 10^36 (Q4587955) - it was about the name "sextillion" which can mean 2 different numbers. But you changed it to a number 10^36 which have different names... I feel that both approaches are symmetric and not perfect. The most wrong thing is now that many sitelinks (for example, ru:Квадриллион and many others) are impossible to place somewhere because they mean two numbers. And oh, first, most wrong stage of changes was done not by you but by User:UU (please join the discussion!) - moving of sitelinks. --Infovarius (talk) 12:18, 29 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Huge table. But what is your plan? To create pair of items: one per name, one per number? --Infovarius (talk) 10:51, 2 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Yes I think that's a solution. --Bigbossfarin (talk) 10:55, 2 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hello! I've seen that you've created some time ago a page with comparison of big numbers, but I can't find it now. Can you give me a link please? --Infovarius (talk) 14:09, 6 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Infovarius: Hi, maybe you mean the list of integers in Wikidata. A comparison of languages in items you can find above. Maybe I was listing numbers with Query Service:
SELECT ?item ?itemLabel ?value WHERE {
  ?item (wdt:P31+) wd:Q21199.
  OPTIONAL { ?item wdt:P1181 ?value. }
  SERVICE wikibase:label { bd:serviceParam wikibase:language "[AUTO_LANGUAGE],en". }
}
Try it!
Greetings Bigbossfarin (talk) 15:58, 6 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
No... I mean the difference between sextillion (Q19929310) and 10^21 (Q671132) for example. --Infovarius (talk) 10:29, 7 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
It was like a subpage "User:Bigbossfarin/integers"... --Infovarius (talk) 10:35, 7 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry I cannot remember. Greetings Bigbossfarin (talk) 10:40, 7 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Please slow down[edit]

You seem to be making some mistakes when deleting or adding subclass of (P279) among other properties. A mistake with this property can cause a lot of damage, so please take some time before editing it, specially if your edits have been undone by other users. Andreasm háblame / just talk to me 04:56, 4 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Andreasmperu, I have done my last edits to seperate mathematical objects from non-mathematic. I used this list to look for objects that are in a wrong subclass. E.g. I removed physical surface (Q28840755) from road surface (Q1049667), because road surface is not mathematic. Reverted was: speed (Q3711325) is a rate (Q1144560) and cyclic process (Q26001387) is a interval (Q185148). I agree with this revisions and will take more care hereafter. Greetings Bigbossfarin (talk) 11:11, 4 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Incorrect changes re dyad[edit]

Please stop your current edits changing subclasses of dyad to instances. The edits are largely incorrect. --Yair rand (talk) 19:45, 6 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Q666[edit]

Hi,

I see that you added

⟨ number of the beast (Q666)  View with Reasonator View with SQID ⟩ instance of (P31) View with SQID ⟨ natural number (Q21199)  View with Reasonator View with SQID ⟩

but isn't it redundant as there is already

⟨ 666 (Q213058)  View with Reasonator View with SQID ⟩ instance of (P31) View with SQID ⟨ natural number (Q21199)  View with Reasonator View with SQID ⟩

and

⟨ number of the beast (Q666)  View with Reasonator View with SQID ⟩ facet of (P1269) View with SQID ⟨ 666 (Q213058)  View with Reasonator View with SQID ⟩

Call for participation in the interview study with Wikidata editors[edit]

Dear Bigbossfarin,

I hope you are doing good,

I am Kholoud, a researcher at King’s College London, and I work on a project as part of my PhD research that develops a personalized recommendation system to suggest Wikidata items for the editors based on their interests and preferences. I am collaborating on this project with Elena Simperl and Miaojing Shi.

I would love to talk with you to know about your current ways to choose the items you work on in Wikidata and understand the factors that might influence such a decision. Your cooperation will give us valuable insights into building a recommender system that can help improve your editing experience.

Participation is completely voluntary. You have the option to withdraw at any time. Your data will be processed under the terms of UK data protection law (including the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and the Data Protection Act 2018). The information and data that you provide will remain confidential; it will only be stored on the password-protected computer of the researchers. We will use the results anonymized (?) to provide insights into the practices of the editors in item selection processes for editing and publish the results of the study to a research venue. If you decide to take part, we will ask you to sign a consent form, and you will be given a copy of this consent form to keep.

If you’re interested in participating and have 15-20 minutes to chat (I promise to keep the time!), please either contact me at kholoudsaa@gmail.com or use this form https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSdmmFHaiB20nK14wrQJgfrA18PtmdagyeRib3xGtvzkdn3Lgw/viewform?usp=sf_link with your choice of the times that work for you.

I’ll follow up with you to figure out what method is the best way for us to connect.

Please contact me using the email mentioned above if you have any questions or require more information about this project.

Thank you for considering taking part in this research.

Regards

Kholoud

LG Bigbossfarin (talk) 09:57, 30 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Response to your message re: short descriptions[edit]

Thank you for the message. I apologize for my extensive use of Google Translate in such edits, and I will abide by your request not to contribute. I trust there is enough editing activity on German Wikipedia to cover the lack of short descriptions. Jarrod Baniqued (talk) 09:45, 8 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Incorrect use of subclass of (P279)[edit]

Hello –

This edit to "ensanche" (Q3321844) was in error. The properties instance of (P31) and subclass of (P279) define key ontological relationships. Because subclass of (P279) is transitive, such errors lead to numerous false inferences, such as ensanche (Q3321844)subclass of (P279)process (Q3249551). Before you use these properties, please look at the object item to be sure it's the one you intend. You can also review the usage instructions on these two properties, and Help:Basic membership properties. (In particular, note that "A" is only a subclass of "B" if all instances of "A" are also instances of "B".) There is often another property better suited to expressing the relationship you had in mind; you can search for one here. Thanks! Swpb (talk) 19:52, 11 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
