Vandalism on several India-related items[edit]

Hello CX Zoom, sorry for this edit; I was checking several edits that seemed to come from a very strong POV and found these deleted descriptions. Based on Google Translate they seemed to be ok, that's why I restored them. Unfortunately, I reverted your edits fighting vandalism which was not my intention. Do you know more about this ongoing vandalism on several items? Sometimes it is hard for me to check whether these IP edits are ok or not since I don't speak Hindi. Regards, Dorades (talk) 16:57, 2 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Dorades: No that's fine, I understand that mistakes do happen. I make a lot of them. I understand Hindi well but don't have great insight into the subject matter. One thing I do understand is that Indian society was divided into castes: Priests (including academics, poets, etc.), Warriors, Businesspersons, everyone else. They have subcastes, and so on. Their is a general tendency to rewrite content to prove that their subcaste is "upper" or that a historically rival subcaste is "lower". There are many IPs who revert such vandalism, most of them not because they want to help Wikipedia/Wikidata, but because their subcaste sentiments have been hurt by the vandal. Due to scarcity of free academic literature on the subject it is very difficult to pinpoint what is "true" and what is "false". So, I started to revert things back to when it seemed the most neutral and stable with my little subject knowledge, unless a justification could be provided in summary or on talk page. The caste-warriors led to en:WP:GSCASTE being enacted on English Wikipedia that allowed admins to take precautionary actions by protection/blocks. CX Zoom (talk) 17:18, 2 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for the insights! I'll be more careful when I come across edits regarding this subject. --Dorades (talk) 17:20, 2 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
To end the constant changes expressing a strong POV, I want to ask for semi-protection on Wikidata:Administrators' noticeboard. Currently, I want to ask for protection for the following items: Q5324, Q24897370, Q337487, Q1279558, Q12458954, Q7131364, Q6958310. What do you think of this approach? Would you add more items? --Dorades (talk) 11:10, 7 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Dorades: Sure, I think that would be helpful. Let's see how effective that would be. Also, I'm not very active here, so I wonder if there is a precautionary system in place here, that allows community sanctions as was done at enwiki. CX Zoom (talk) 11:18, 7 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Hi CX Zoom, I was wondering if you'd like to comment here, since this is one of the pages mentioned above and which was semi-protected for some time. Since it is still disputed, a second semi-protection would maybe help. What do you think? --Dorades (talk) 21:15, 21 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I'm afraid that I might not be able to have an idea on the above issue, as I'm almost completely inactive on Wikidata nowadays, owing to being busy in real life. Sorry. CX Zoom (talk) 13:44, 22 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
