July 2018[edit]

Since when chemical elements have 'molecular' weight? Wostr (talk) 18:51, 22 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@G V N Rupa: I agree with Wostr, your many edits to the elements to add "molecular weight" values do not seem either chemically correct or particularly helpful. I believe these should be reverted. At the least they need to be fixed for spacing issues, etc. Also I question some of your other edits - what was the purpose of this or this for instance? ArthurPSmith (talk) 00:07, 23 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@G V N Rupa: Please stop your edits on the English labels of elements! If you think we should have more details from their properties in the labels, please discuss that - on Project Chat, or perhaps as a bot request since this seems to be automated! This edit for example is nongrammatical and I don't believe particularly helpful. ArthurPSmith (talk) 13:22, 26 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@ArthurPSmith, Wostr: I think the edits to chemical elements can be reverted; it's not really necessary to include such detail in the description anyway. Jc86035 (talk) 14:21, 26 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Ok I've rolled back all the element edits; also looked at a few other English description/alias edits from this user, but there are many that still need to be checked I think! ArthurPSmith (talk) 18:27, 26 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Jc86035, ArthurPSmith: Thanks Arthur! Here's hoping that KCVelaga or someone else from the group follows up soon. By the way, the description added to Q23104 originated from this. Mahir256 (talk) 18:34, 26 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

In addition to the links in the welcome notice above, please also note the following:

  • Please respond on this page and indicate that you have understood the concerns raised. It is frustrating to have to repeatedly tell new users that they need to correct the same mistakes; Wikidata is not your personal playground and you must be able to collaborate with others in order to contribute effectively.
  • Please do not rewrite descriptions if there is already a good one, especially in specialist fields like topology/geometry and chemistry. curve (Q161973) may have a meaning of a smooth line in vernacular English, but because of its use in various areas of mathematics its description cannot be that simple.
  • You generally shouldn't need to add references for images. Furthermore, please do not tack your description onto the end of someone else's.
  • Please do not indiscriminately capitalize words, including words at the beginnings of descriptions. For example, I've corrected your description edit at Viburnum (Q158492).
  • Please use the data in an item to verify what you're editing, as different biological taxa can share the same common name and there are probably items for almost all named taxa. Similarly, Lot (Q40574) is about a person in the Bible and the Quran, not the word that means "many".
  • The description does not need to contain lots of information – descriptions are often quite short, like "British singer-songwriter" or "international airport serving Helsinki, Finland". You also shouldn't add your personal opinions. I've reverted your addition to Android KitKat (Q2846920)'s description for these reasons. (It wouldn't make much sense to add "obsolete" to everything that's old.)
  • Please make sure that your English makes sense before adding a description. A rainbow is not "the seven spectrum" for various reasons, and no one calls it that.

If you haven't done so yet, please check your notifications, which are normally accessible using the grey bell and tray icons at the top right of the page. Jc86035 (talk) 14:53, 26 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@G V N Rupa: I do not have access during the day to the email to which Special:EmailUser/Mahir256 sends messages. Please respond on this talk page to the complaints expressed above. (The points in the reason for the block regarding your institution and a list of names are not a priority with respect to unblocking you.) Mahir256 (talk) 14:54, 26 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

You're still able to edit this page even though you're blocked. Jc86035 (talk) 15:05, 26 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
