New items with #quickstatements

Hi Ghuron.

Can you please paste here an example of how to create an item using QuickStatements tool? Thank you. --Gikü (talk) 16:56, 10 February 2017 (UTC)

Well, sample can be found here, see "An example for creating a new item and setting a label" --Ghuron (talk) 17:00, 10 February 2017 (UTC)
Thank you, I remember I tried it once but did not quite grasp the CREATE-LAST relationship. I understand now that I need to write CREATE in a separate line, only then to use LAST for all the instructions. --Gikü (talk) 14:23, 13 February 2017 (UTC)
Just one tip: you might have more than one LAST line after one CREATE --Ghuron (talk) 16:26, 13 February 2017 (UTC)

Ghuron (talk) 05:18, 16 February 2017 (UTC)

Chemical compounds properties

Hey, I've noticed that you're adding properties to chemical compounds, but the source is rather inappropriate. Per Help:Sources:

"However, just because something is stated on a Wikipedia page, does not mean that it is acceptable to consider the Wikipedia page itself as a source; it's much better to locate the actual citation and use that instead. For this reason, statements that are only supported by imported from Wikimedia project (P143) are not considered sourced statements. If you encounter one of these statements, please remove "imported from" and add a more reliable source."

Properties sourced by ru.wiki/en.wiki/any other wiki cannot be then reused from WD in any other wiki as most of local verifiability policies prohibit citing other wikis as a source. Regards, Wostr (talk) 14:50, 16 February 2017 (UTC)

I'm not particularly interested in chemical compounds, but I've just added wikidata integration to ru-wiki version of Template:Chembox (Q52426). Integration there works both ways - if there is no data in ru-wiki infobox, it shows info from wikidata. If there is data in infobox, but not on wikidata, it can be "exported" there with a few clicks via local gadget. So I was just testing that.
But speaking about "inappropriate source", I'm not aware of consensus regarding prohibiting editors from creating unsourced (or P143-sourced) statements. If that consensus exists, please point me the relevant discussion. I fully agree that sourced statements is better than unsourced. But I also believe that P143-sourced statement is better than no statement at all. Wikidata project is at the very early stages of data accumulation, I would be very surprised if community will decide to raise quality bar that high. Anyway local wiki-projects can decide to use only fully-sourced statements, or relax this restriction a little bit - it is up to them. At ru-wiki normally we accept unsourced statements with only a few exceptions.
But of cause, if you are planning to massively import data for any specific property from reliable chemical source, I can temporary "freeze" wd-integration for that property in ru-wiki. --Ghuron (talk) 17:15, 16 February 2017 (UTC)
I didn't know that you answered me here (in the future please use {{Ping}} or link my username). In my opinion no information is better than unsourced (or P143-sourced) information. I think you should keep your unsourced informations in the local wiki, but I will raise this issue in the WikiProject Chemistry. Regards, Wostr (talk) 18:22, 23 February 2017 (UTC)
Privet Ghuron, please let us chemists make the rules for this topic. In German Wikipedia for example articles about chemicals with unsourced values automatically go into a maintenance category. We can't use Wikidata, if the same level of accuracy isn't enforced here.
It's better to rely on a reliable source like CRC Handbook of Chemistry and Physics (Q904273). I can send you a copy of the latest edition, if you want to proof your statements. Greetings, --Kopiersperre (talk) 18:54, 23 February 2017 (UTC)
The discussion about sources is Wikidata:Requests_for_comment/References_and_sources. This is the result of a RFC which was approuved by more than 70%. Importation from WPs was tolerated until recently but since one year there were strong criticism from different WPs about data quality from WD. So now the tolerance is not more accepted. --KVK2005 (talk) 06:49, 18 April 2017 (UTC)

Source for gender claims

Hi Ghuron, I notice you're mass adding gender to items. What is the source for claims like this one? Multichill (talk) 09:29, 28 April 2017 (UTC)

@Multichill: My understanding is that absolute majority (if not 100%) of early Reneisanse artisists are men. If you notice any mistakes in my load, please let me know --Ghuron (talk) 10:23, 28 April 2017 (UTC)

Hello, you masschanged genders of persons, that I introduced to wikidata. Although their names often are used for a male, I did not found an envidence and source, that that they where actually men. Please give a source when you do that. It is enough, that genders are defined in names. In my opinion you might tag the "exact" gender only if you are very sure, then with sources please. --Scoid d (talk) 06:55, 16 September 2017 (UTC)

@Scoid d: although I certainly respect your opinion, I'm unaware of explicit consensus that prohibits me from uploading reasonably correct data without sources. Of cause, if you point me mistakes in my load (like Magnus below) that would make me reconsider quality of my datasets (like I did a few months ago). And I'm not sure why do you think that "it is enough, that genders are defined in names". For many wikidata consumers it is not enough, for instance in my home wiki infoboxes either expicitly shows gender or use it to render labels correctly --Ghuron (talk) 07:49, 16 September 2017 (UTC)

Educated at Cambridge

I've just noticed these edits - are you adding educated at (P69):University of Cambridge (Q35794) to every item with a Cambridge Alumni Database ID (P1599) value and not using any other source?

If so, you should probably know that not everyone in Venn was educated at Cambridge; it includes some people who were educated elsewhere (usually Oxford) and later took a fellowship at Cambridge, or were involved with the university in some other way, without actually studying there, eg George Browne (Q5537336). I had originally considered adding P69 to them all (like this) but stopped when I realised this... Andrew Gray (talk) 19:31, 2 May 2017 (UTC)

@Andrew Gray: thanks for noticing. I will think how to correct my wrong edits --Ghuron (talk) 03:21, 3 May 2017 (UTC)
@Andrew Gray: didn't find a way to correct them reliably (interface of venn.lib.cam.ac.uk is kind of strange) so decided to revert my edits alltogether. Sorry for inconvinience --Ghuron (talk) 07:34, 4 May 2017 (UTC)
Thanks - sorry to put you to all this trouble! I'll keep thinking about this and see if I can come up with a reliable way to extract the data. Andrew Gray (talk) 11:58, 4 May 2017 (UTC)

Japanese genders

Hi, you added a lot of sex or gender (P21) "female" statements to Japanese people, who are actually men. Example. I have fixed some, but there are probably a lot more. Could you have a look please? --Magnus Manske (talk) 14:18, 11 May 2017 (UTC)

Update: Not just Japanese, it appears... --Magnus Manske (talk) 15:33, 11 May 2017 (UTC)

@Magnus Manske: Thanks for pointing that to me, reviewing that batch now --Ghuron (talk) 17:03, 11 May 2017 (UTC)
@Magnus Manske: Yep, it looks like it is not limited to Japanese and it takes longer than expected. I can see that you are fixing them today as well, thanks for that. Will continue correction on my side --Ghuron (talk) 12:20, 12 May 2017 (UTC)

Copying person name labels to English

Hi Ghuron,

At [3], I noticed you copied the name from hu to en as part of some batch. Please avoid doing that as the name order is different in Hungarian (family name > given namen).

@Jura1: Got it, thanks --Ghuron (talk) 07:47, 5 July 2017 (UTC)

P463 and P611 = Q36380

Hi,

I noticed you added :

⟨ António Vieira (Q458650)  View with Reasonator View with SQID ⟩ member of (P463) View with SQID ⟨ Society of Jesus (Q36380)  View with Reasonator View with SQID ⟩

but there was already :

⟨ António Vieira (Q458650)  View with Reasonator View with SQID ⟩ religious order (P611) View with SQID ⟨ Society of Jesus (Q36380)  View with Reasonator View with SQID ⟩

It seems redundant to me. Can I revert the first?

Thank you. Cdlt, VIGNERON (talk) 16:18, 22 July 2017 (UTC)

C++

Hi, I've noticed that you added C++ (Q2407) to programmed in (P277) of some software projects, such as Git (Q186055) or Mercurial (Q476543) while citing English Wikipedia. It doesn't check out, their pages don't mention C++ and these projects contain minimal amount of C++ code (1.6% for git github stats and 0.3% for Mercurial openhub stats). Please check these edits.  – The preceding unsigned comment was added by 5.167.71.109 (talk • contribs).

Please check again [4], I didn't add this statement, I've changed qualifier from stated in (P248) to more semantically correct imported from Wikimedia project (P143). Wikipedia is not reliable source, but it can be source of the batch import. @YULdigitalpreservation: it looks like you are the one who added those statements, are you sure they are correct? Especially regarding C vs. C++ in git (note [5])? --Ghuron (talk) 05:13, 2 November 2017 (UTC)
You're right, I'm sorry for pointing at the wrong person. I've posted a new topic with some more examples at User talk:YULdigitalpreservation. 5.167.71.109 04:58, 6 November 2017 (UTC)

Они должы иметь лишь instance of (P31)Wikimedia permanent duplicate item (Q21286738) и permanent duplicated item (P2959) сзязанного элемента. К сожалению путаницы добавляют шаблоны на восточноармянском языке, размещённые в статьях на западноармянском. По возможности исправляю категории в ВП. - Kareyac (talk) 21:04, 24 December 2017 (UTC)
