Please explain...[edit]

...this edit (and many more like it). Södermanland (Q626062) is no administrative-territorial entity. /ℇsquilo 18:48, 16 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, Please see User talk:Ladsgroup/Archive 3#P131 in Sweden. The edit is okay based on talks I had with the user (I was asked to do this) Amir (talk) 08:25, 17 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
No, it does not comply to the advices given by Lavallen. Only municipalities and counties are administrative-territorial entities. Provinces are not. It is true what Lavallen says about two paralell systems for geographic division (provice => parish and county => municipality) but only the last one is administrative-territorial. The first one is only territorial. /ℇsquilo 11:48, 17 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Do you manage to also add the Province?
—Lavallen

and provinces are administrative-territorial entities. I think you're not familiar with data model of Wikidata. please do some research Amir (talk) 12:22, 17 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Of cource I am familiar with the data model of Wikidata. I've been contributing to parts of it. An no, provinces in Sweden has never had any administration. Administration on that level is handled by the countys. /ℇsquilo 07:02, 18 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I was asked to do this by User:Lavallen if you think this was wrong, please make a discussion and inform him/her to participate and after consensuses I will do whatever community decides Amir (talk) 17:57, 18 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Q15899326的修改[edit]

修改使用了原康平镇的数据,不一致是否符合原则,请指正

Hi, sorry I don't know Chiniese but using google translate I think you asked me to revert your edit in the Q15899326 which I did Amir (talk) 08:38, 17 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Hi,I means that |康平镇| has changed to Q15899326,but old data|Q11063813| and its property are there. Then new dataQ15899326 hasn't its property that it is same as old. How do we deal with them? I am sorry to my poor English.--cfch250(留言) 22:22, 17 June 2014 (UTC+8)
Let's ping one of my friends who is a native Chinese speaker, User:GZWDer can you help me? Thank youAmir (talk) 14:39, 17 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
ok. I try to call him. I don't understand |ping|'s mean here. 22:53, 17 June 2014 (UTC+8)

Dexbot adding incorrect dates of death[edit]

On Q464910, Q353690 and Q432437 there are no dates of death on the English language Wikipedia articles but Dexbot added dates of death to Wikidata.

This is a serious BLP issue. For a death a reliable reference, such as an obituary, is required. A link to a Wikipedia article is not sufficient due to vandalism, hoaxes and cases of mistaken identity.

--Racklever (talk) 13:32, 18 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I reverted those edits and I'm working to find out where went wrong, and as there is a report on User:Ladsgroup/Death date report/No Wikidata/4 which Q464910 named in it as a missing death date, so problem is incorrect dump reading or incorrect version saved in dumps. Anyway I'm looking to find out where is the issue Amir (talk) 18:02, 18 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

My bot removed all of incorrect death dates (about 1000) and It won't happen again. Thank you for noticing it Amir (talk) 14:05, 20 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Districts[edit]

Hi Amir,

There a few cases (Swiss districts) where the bot seems to have replace a valid value with the value for the capital (sample: diff). This creates loops in the structure. --- Jura 16:13, 21 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

It seems to come from the English Wikipedia where the capital is listed in place of subdivisions. --- Jura 16:17, 21 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah It's GIGO, I've added several control units but it seems it out of hand on this Amir (talk) 04:44, 22 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
NP. What's a bit annoying is that it overwrote info. To fix it, would you remove P131 from [1]? I can add the correct info with Widdar. --- Jura 07:30, 22 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
In this task I determined for the bot not to overwrite except in cases that existed P131 exists in P131 chain (i.e. my bot just can make the P131 more precise). Sure I'm going to start Amir (talk) 07:42, 22 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Done Amir (talk) 07:56, 22 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. It seems that the items also mixed several levels of districts. Some actually had the right info, so I reverted those and fixed the items. Overall it should be in better shape now. --- Jura 10:56, 22 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for doing this Amir (talk) 11:15, 22 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Removal of P107 (P107)[edit]

P107 - general[edit]

Do you have a counter how many P107 (P107) = geographical feature (Q618123) still exist? Can everyone obtain that value? Androoox (talk) 14:02, 18 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

based on http://208.80.153.172/wdq/?q=claim[107:618123] there are 1M statements left, I'm working on it :) Amir (talk) 14:29, 18 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]
The page lists 500. Looking at the descriptions of these, it looks easy for a bot to improve, just by using the first 1-3 words, e.g. river, town, district... Androoox (talk) 02:28, 20 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Could you delete GND for all items having a description that starts with the word "town" and create "instance of : town"? Androoox (talk) 06:07, 26 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

P107 - municipality of Bulgaria[edit]

Borovan Municipality (Q2015266) has P107 (P107). But the attached English WP article is in en:Category:Municipalities of Bulgaria. Androoox (talk) 04:55, 17 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, I can't understand what you mean, Did my bot something wrong? or My bot needs to do something that it didn't? Amir (talk) 08:43, 17 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I thought your bot may help to remove P107 (P107) for all Municipalities of Bulgaria. and add municipality of Bulgaria (Q1906268) Androoox (talk) 17:44, 17 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I have discovered the AutoList tool now. With this I've added today to more than 20.000 items the statement "is instance of" "human" ... but still around 238.000 items using "P107" is "person". -- Pütz M. (talk) 21:12, 11 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
@Pütz M.: be careful not to add P31:Q5 for fictional characters, how do you add the statements?Amir (talk) 09:02, 12 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I'm adding the P31 statement based on queries on German Wikipedia. There are some categories that contain undoubtely only humans. The number of articles on fictional characters is really low there. Further, fictional characters are ususally left out from standard categories like "man"/"woman", "born in .."/"died in ...". So it is a decent basis. - Pütz M. (talk) 09:25, 12 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

@Pütz M.: ping me when you made lots of additions and so my bot has something to do (removing P107) Amir (talk) 22:04, 13 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

could you please take care of "CLAIM[31:486972] AND CLAIM[107:618123]" and let Dexbot remove the P107 statement? It's more than 5.600 entries. With AutoList2 this takes too long. Thanks for your help. -- Pütz M. (talk) 09:24, 27 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Human group items and human properties[edit]

Hi, your bot adds invalid properties for many human group items today. For example see [2]. Please undo invalid edits and please add to your bot checks to prevent such situations in future. It is unpleasant situation then users remove invalid claims and bots add its again. This bots behavior demotivates users to improve Wikidata. You can use parameters of {{Constraint:Conflicts with}} from Property talk:P21 as check criteria. — Ivan A. Krestinin (talk) 09:59, 28 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I'm traveling but I stopped it ASAP (two hours ago), I'll fix it Amir (talk) 12:40, 28 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Third time the bot does such a mistake on Seth and Mary Eastman (Q15975279). Generally speaking, do not assign individual human info on any subclass of (P279) group of humans (Q16334295), see this list. LaddΩ chat ;) 01:21, 29 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

@Ivan A. Krestinin: and @Laddo: Hello, finally I'm able to talk, I got still a lot to do but never mind. I know these issues and spotted them before running the bot (see archives of the mailing list) what happened wasn't a lapse in coding, it was a lapse in running it (I used an early version of my script instead of the latest, I didn't check carefully what I was running). I'm terribly sorry for that and I'm going to fix it Amir (talk) 14:54, 29 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

English labels for administrative territorial entities[edit]

For these districts could you

  1. cut out all ", Something" and add to description as "Something" if the description is empty and as " / Something" if there is some value in the description?
  2. add " District" if the label does not end in " District"

Administrative territorial entity[edit]

Related to Wikidata:Administrative territorial entity#Subclasses:

For all subclasses could you create a table with columns

  • Item // e.g. province or territory of Canada (Q2879)
  • country (P17), if any // e.g. Canada (Q16)
  • English label split at " of ", first part // e.g. province or territory
  • Count direct // e.g. claim[31:2879] = 0
  • Count all // e.g. claim[31:(tree[2879][][279])] = 13
  • Direct instance with the lowest Q-number // e.g. Quebec (Q176) (Note: this would not be in the same row as the above examples, since it is not a direct instance)

Save this table to Wikidata:Administrative territorial entity/List of subclasses Tamawashi (talk) 14:54, 5 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

OK, tomorrow you will have it. Amir (talk) 17:05, 5 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I made it (it's not complete because It will be huge if I would go on). some changes are needed. for example what do you think about splitting it up to several pages? Amir (talk) 23:08, 5 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Haha, already made a split proposal due to script errors, I didn't looked here first. Didn't know it is not complete, so probably more subpages are needed. See talk, I pinged you, but made some changes afterwards. I made "Version 2" section at the talk page, so there is some kind of documentation attached to the list. P31 - ethnic group[edit]

Hi! ethnic group (Q41710)  View with Reasonator View with SQID should be the instance for the relevant pages located either in the [[:en:Category:Ethnic groups]} category or in its subcategories.
Please see https://www.wikidata.org/?diff=79630768&oldid=66592918#top a change made by Dexbot and the https://www.wikidata.org/?diff=127608139&oldid=127603375#top fix. Can you please verify if there is

either a instance of (P31) statement with the proper value ethnic group (Q41710) or
a subclass of (P279) / part of (P361) statement with a value which recursivly links to ethnic group (Q41710) ?

Is it possible to make a list and if applicable a tree? Can you make a list whith WD items which require manual correction (because disambuguations are involved)? Thanks in advance for your time? Can you schedule the task and let us know when you can perform it? Regards gangLeri לערי ריינהארט (talk) 09:11, 10 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi I checked the category and unfortunately It has lots of false positives (lots of articles that are not ethnicities) so we need to find another category to harvest Amir (talk) 20:28, 10 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Russian labels for personalities are all wrong![edit]

[7] [8] [9] etc. Note that in Russian Wikipedia we use "Surname, Name Patronym(if available)" order for names in titles (like in all printable encyclopedias in Russian). For Hugh the Dull, Lord of Douglas (Q5933268), you set "Hugh the Dull, Lord of Douglas" -> "Дуглас", while correct value is "Дуглас, Хьюго, 7-й лорд Дуглас" or just "Дуглас, Хьюго". Can you fix these? --Lockal (talk) 11:20, 25 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, thank you for telling this, In order to be able to fix it, I need to know some stuff about Russian language, first of all: Do you use "," in title for any other cases? like places with the same name. etc. Amir (talk) 12:02, 25 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
tldr; we don't use commas to solve disambiguations, so everything after comma can be treated as a part of label.
Full answer: We use parentheses to solve disambiguations. It is generally ok to throw away everything in parentheses (except when it starts with capital letter, see below):
In some cases there are no "(значения)" in disambig pages
There are no strict rules other than that. Not even capital letters can help to split
It is ok for Patriarchs, Metropolitans and other religious people to include just name:
  • ru:Викентий (Патриарх Сербский) -> en:Patriarch Vikentije of Serbia (literally: Vikentije (Patriarch of Serbia))
  • However, as I said earlier, you should not throw away parentheses content with bot if the part before opening parenthesis consists of one word && text inside parentheses starts with capital. For religious people it mostly contains surnames:
  • ru:Климент (Капалин) - Климент is religious name, Капалин is real surname, Герман is name, Михайлович is Patronym. In this case "Климент (Капалин)" is a good choice for label, unless you can generate a good description to show the difference between "Климент" and other "Климент"s.
  • ru:Владимир (Сабодан), ru:Владимир (Кантарян), ru:Владимир (Котляров) -- same as above, they are all "Vladimir"s (an extremely common name in Russia), they are all Metropolitans, the only difference are their surnames in parentheses. Actually, their real full names (in the form "name surname patronym") are "Viktor Markianovich Sabodan", "Nikolaj Vasil'evich Kantarjan" and "Vladimir Savvich Kotljarov", so only one "Vladimir" there.
For pseudonyms and established names we don't permute name and surname, e. g. ru:Крис Касперски (Kris is a pseudonym name, Kasperski is a pseudonym surname), or ru:Леонардо да Винчи == Leonardo da Vinci.

Let me see what I can do. one week or probably less Amir (talk) 15:23, 29 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I fixed it in my code so it won't happen again (I determined capital letters this: "АБВГҐДЂЃЕЀЁЄЖЗЅИЍІЇЙЈКЛЉМНЊОПРСТЋЌУЎФХЦЧЏШЩЪЫЬЭЮЯӐӒӘӚӔҒҔӺӶԀԂꚈӖӁҖӜԄҘӞԐӠԆӢҊӤҚӃҠҞҜԞԚӅԒԠԈԔӍӉҢӇҤԢԊӦӨӪҨԤҦҎԖҪԌҬԎӮӰӲҮҰҲӼӾҺԦҴҶӴӋҸꚆҼҾӸҌӬԘԜӀ" is it okay?) Amir (talk) 15:11, 30 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

as an example [10] Amir (talk) 07:20, 1 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, this example is correct. Please, do not forget to fix your previous edits. --Lockal (talk) 13:46, 7 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

List of neighbourhoods in Edmonton[edit]

Hello. en:List of neighbourhoods in Edmonton contains an infobox for a place that redirects to it, so that article rightfully has coordinates on it. Is there a way to keep Dexbot from adding coordinates to list of neighbourhoods in Edmonton (Q6630358)? 117Avenue (talk) 22:00, 1 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

If you remove P131 in that item (is it correct to add P131 in list items? I don't think so) the bot won't touch it. Amir (talk) 05:57, 2 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Still doing it. 117Avenue (talk) 02:48, 15 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
And the country needed to be removed too. Done Amir (talk) 18:41, 15 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Bot[edit]

Hi, Ladsgroup! I've reverted your bot four times with the same edit in the same article (this edit). An anachronism, of course, Spain didn't exist in 138 B.C. (Spanish nationality neither). Is there a way to stop these edits? Cheers.Totemkin (talk) 00:53, 4 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, It has been harvesting it from Italian Wikipedia, please tell me when the bot is doing something wrong before reverting it. the article, I removed the nationality from the template Amir (talk) 17:02, 4 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks! Sorry, I saw no infobox there and I got misled. Cheers.—Totemkin (talk) 20:04, 7 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Wrong property assignment by Dexbot again and again and again[edit]

Hi,

No, Claude Izner (Q743688) is not French, and it is not born in Paris. As marked in its instance of (P31), it is the pseudonym (Q61002) of a duo of writer, so it cannot have a nationality or a place of birth.

Apparently, DexBot infers this from an Italian WP category. I have undone the change many times in the past months, but it keeps coming back to it. This is getting tiring.

You really need to teach it not to apply "human" properties to items with a instance of (P31) which is not human (Q5).

Thanks,

--LBE (talk) 15:53, 11 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

@LBE:: Hello, sorry for any inconvenience, please inform me whenever my bot makes a mistake, so I can fix it. and about this problem. I'm not harvesting these data from a category in Italian Wikipedia, I'm harvesting their infobox and it has been used incorrectly. I added lots of checks (for example if you use "consists of" property, The bot would skips this item) anyway, I would add another check. Thank you for informing me. Amir (talk) 16:02, 11 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Company with hq[edit]

If item is company (instance of (P31) company (Q783794)) and has already coordinate location (P625) as qualifier of headquarters location (P159), there is no need to import coordinate location (P625) to the item. Please update your import script. --Jklamo (talk) 19:05, 14 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, Thank you, I'll add and remove all of mistakes. Amir (talk) 22:29, 14 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Italian label[edit]

About this edit, italian wiki don't use comma for disambiguation, is possible change bot rule? --ValterVB (talk) 08:58, 27 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hey, Are you sure? If you are It's easy to fix Amir (talk) 10:58, 27 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Yes I'm sure :) From policy: «The brackets should be used only when there is a need to disambiguate» --ValterVB (talk) 13:18, 27 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, thank you. I added to my code. It'll work okay in the next run (five or four days from now) Amir (talk) 13:23, 27 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Merge-project requiring language skills[edit]

Dear Wikidatan,

Even though Wikidata phase 1 (replacing interlanguage by Wikidata) is officially finished, there are still a lot a duplicate items that should be merged. Projects to list possible duplicates (and therefore possibles mergers) have been started by users such as Pasleim with User:Pasleim/projectmerge and Ivan A. Krestinin with User:Ivan A. Krestinin/To merge. Those bot-generated lists do however contain quite some false positives and therefore still need a human eye to decide whether to merge or not.

Since you are an administrator on Wikidata with knowledge of the Persian (Farsi) language, User:Ivan A. Krestinin/To merge/fawiki might use your help. As said, it lists couples of WD items that might possibly be merged. If you are already involved in these projects or not interested, I am sincerely sorry for bothering you.

With kind regards, FakirNL (talk) 23:34, 27 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, As I knew lots of geographical features in Iran have English duplicate item (about 16,000 items needed to be merged to another 16,000) I wrote some scripts to find out how many we can merge and I think I had merged about three or four thousands of them and I'm waiting for new reports but the old report can be found here Amir (talk) 01:31, 28 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I just noticed that User:Ivan A. Krestinin/To merge/fawiki is already very short and the conflicts are not on the Persian side. Still thanks though. Good to see you have your own merge-project. I'm afraid I can't help you with it because I don't read or understand Persian, but good luck with the project! - FakirNL (talk) 10:41, 28 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you. We have great people working on it :) Amir (talk) 11:40, 28 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
