Capitalization

Hi I saw that you capitalized, "tanker" in Q14790, I do not think it is a good idea, as it may be useful information that "tanker" is not capitalized by default, and in any case, if it needs to be reverted later on, it is much easier to add a capital letter, that to selectively remove it. Hi. I think it is quite difficult to explain the difference between the two in their descriptions. I think the distinction is best outlined here: https://wiki.musicbrainz.org/Label. The relationship between the two is like the relationship between a book publisher and their imprints. A music label is found on promotion materials and actual distributions (like CDs). Undo merge?

Hello, I noticed that you merged Q15854278 and Q936276. However they are not the same as they are different editions by different publishers. If the other other edition (which you merged into) becomes available on Commons or Wikisource−which does happen−it will not be able to be linked to its correct Wikidata entry because of the merge. (Only one WS or Commons link is allowed per Data entry.) This is the reason that different editions of the same text get different Wikidata entries. Can you please reverse the merge? Hi. I've reverted the merge. I thought both items are work items, as they both have instance of (P31) -> book (Q571). Edition items should have an instance of version, edition or translation (Q3331189). Q936276 should be split into two items, as it should be a work item instead of an edition item. Work items describe the book (regardless of the edition), while edition items describe a specific edition. See Wikidata:Books task force for more info. Thank you very much for the info and rollback. The page you pointed to doesn't make it clear when to use book and when to use edition. It seems that there should there be an item for the book itself and then a separate item for each edition. Is this correct? Right now I see the two editions linked above and one is marked instance of book while the other is instance of edition, yet neither are the first edition (1908, Charles Scribner). And, if it's true that there should be a separate work page (instance of book) then should it have one publisher, or all of them? Of course, any help is appreciated. @Hazmat2: Hi again. I would make Q936276 the work item (for the book itself), as the Wikipedia articles are already linked to that item. So, I'd recommend making a new item for the "Methuen Publishing" edition. You should create a new item for the 1908 Charles Scribner edition. Right now, according to Wikidata:Books task force#Book properties, there shouldn't be a publisher property in the work item. —Wylve (talk) 05:40, 2 March 2014 (UTC)

@Movses: Hi. Please take at look at Wikidata:WikiProject Books, where they have established a schema for published works. When you have one item for both the work and its edition, you would have a huge problem with works with multiple editions, as they do not possess the same attributes. —Wylve (talk) 10:23, 15 October 2014 (UTC)

Nonetheless, even works with only one published edition needs a work item and an edition item. In this case, The Problems of Philosophy has several editions published by different publishers (see [1]). Surname for Korean persons

Hello. I've noticed your bot added surnames to the records of several Korean persons. However, it linked them to the Chinese or Han version of the surname instead of the Korean version. Though the names often use the same Chinese-origin characters and may have the same origins, the pronunciations are usually different. So we wind up with Korean people with surname "Seo" showing a surname of Xu, even though Seo as a Korean name has its own record. I have no idea how bots work, but is there a way to keep this from happening? Once I change them manually, will the bot go back and re-change them or does it only look for records with no surnames at all? It's not a huge problem for me to change them manually. @Shinyang-i: Hi, my bot crawls through categories at zh.wiki to make surname edits. As the Chinese Wikipedia displays Korean names in hanja, Korean people would be categorized into surname categories with other Chinese people. Ah, I see! Hanja and Chinese are often different, and so I never really rely on Wikipedia to give the information correctly, as (at least on en-wiki and probably zh-wiki) there are constant edit wars on hanja fields for various reasons. But aside from that, even though the origin of the names may be the same, the pronunciations have often changed dramatically in Korean and Japanese. I haven't looked at any Japanese person records to see how it may (or may not) affect them. It seems like there are unique records for most Korean surnames on Wikidata, so what I did was go ahead and make records for the few names that were combined with Chinese records and switch people over, re-linking the ko-wiki page to the new record. The record on ko-wiki generally is inclusive of the entire history of the name, including Chinese origins, but it just seemed this was the best way to go for consistency. I did this even for a name (Kong/Gong) that has roughly the same pronunciation as the Chinese version, because it would be weird to have it be an exception. As long as the bot doesn't run on records that already have surnames, things should be fine. This stuff sure is confusing, isn't it? Unexplained removal of connecting line / inception properties

Hi Wylve, I'm just wondering why you removed inception (P571) and connecting line (P81) from Central Station (Q15166) about a year and a half ago without explanation. I've added connecting line (P81) back now (inception (P571) was re-added by someone else), but feel free to remove it if there's something wrong with it (I don't spend a lot of time here). @Jc86035: Hi, I think I removed inception (P571) because there were different opening dates for each of the lines connected to the station. But now I have no problem with having the opening date as the earliest one. As for connecting line (P81), I have always used the property as a qualifier for adjacent station (P197) and not as a standalone property. Hello! The consensus in the project:names is to use different from (P1889) to link family names to disambiguation pages and said to be the same as (P460) to link family names together. So when several different Chinese surnames share the same transliteration for example, they would be linked by said to be the same as (P460). We link together surnames sharing the same etymology, for example, etc. Greenway (Q16870299) and Greenaway (Q1261077) are linked because they share the same Russian transliteration, etc. If both element are surnames, and there is cause to confusion in a language, then we use said to be the same as (P460). @Infovarius: I am sure of my edit. "人類" is used for both individual humans and humanity in Chinese. "人" means more generally a person, though it is not the most accurate translation. There is simply no word for it in Chinese to express personhood. —Wylve (talk) 13:45, 21 November 2016 (UTC)

Subclass tree for group of humans

Hi Wylve, I see you're working on the location (P276) tree. On RKDartists ID (P650) we have the constraint that it should either be human (Q5), group of humans (Q16334295) or a subclass of these classes. This used to be all green, but corporation (Q167037) turned red. I had to do this edit to fix it. You might want to solve it differently. With this query you should be able to check if the tree is still complete. If it returns zero items (as it does now) it means the tree is correct. Multichill (talk) 10:08, 24 November 2016 (UTC)

Translations in chinese for cycling ?

Hi I see you are chinese and you understand English. I work with other users to use Wikidata in cycling. For the moment, we have nine different functions (infobox, listofteams...) and we are able to work on around 20 languages. We are able to make articles with wikidata as fr:1re étape du Tour d'Espagne 2016, fr:Grand Prix de Denain 2016, fr:Saison 2017 de l'équipe cycliste Pauwels Sauzen-Vastgoedservice or ca:Quatre dies de Dunkerque 1980. And it is just few examples. We start to prepare functions in more.

When I see an article like zh:2015年环法自行车赛 I guess you have no people to update these articles. So I propose we work a little together with the idea to adapt the algorithm to the chinese. If you follow the page Wikidata:WikiProject Cycling/Translations of Module:Cycling race, you will see two links that give access to kits to translate. Once the items and properties translated, a chinese will be able to work about cycling in its language and understand items about cycling. Then we have works to translate that correspond to translations of tables and infobox. The last stage in this process, if you are interested, is to know how you display your unities, dates, and other specificites. You can contact me if you want.
