Flood flag request

I am going to export data and compare them with other data source. In the meantime, I may edit some entities if I'm absolutely sure the other source is correct by a program. I believe I have enough experience in doing this since I've tried to import some list to wikidata as well as an OSS developer. --Fantasticfears (talk) 14:58, 5 December 2017 (UTC)

✓ Done, the flag will expire in a month. Please remove it yourself when you have completed the task.--Ymblanter (talk) 21:38, 5 December 2017 (UTC)
"edit some entities" turned out to be almost 1 million edits, added with a rate of 500 till 800 edits per minute. While the dispatch wasn't heavily affected by this (max stalest lag during the import was half an hour), I don't think this is healthy for the community and the servers. Should have used a bot account and clearly didn't follow the rule: "Bots should respect maxlag and should follow the API etiquette guidelines". Clear abuse of the flag IMO. Stryn (talk) 18:19, 18 December 2017 (UTC)
@Vogone, Ymblanter, Lymantria: please remove the flood flag from this user. Stryn (talk) 18:25, 18 December 2017 (UTC)
After having looked through the recent contributions I have to agree. The flood flag has been removed for now, however, a bot flag as suggested by Stryn can obviously be requested for future use. Regards, --Vogone (talk) 18:30, 18 December 2017 (UTC)
Sorry for the disruption. I didn't know that I should be aware of Bot policy. And PAWS service is down. Next time I'll make it clear. I'll reply the content part on Wikidata:Data_Import_Hub.--Fantasticfears (talk) 19:34, 18 December 2017 (UTC)
If we don't want that the Flood flag is used this way, we should likely have rules saying that it shouldn't be used this way isntead of expecting people to guess it. ChristianKl09:25, 22 December 2017 (UTC)
Note that there is a discussion about the flood of new creations causing issues and that there should be a limitation per use, worth reading phab:T183341.  — billinghurst sDrewth 12:51, 22 December 2017 (UTC)
