- Motivation
In the United States BMI, ASCAP and SESAC are responsible for the management of music rights. ASCAP handles the rights of 625,000 songwriters, composers, and music publishers, with over 10,000,000 registered works. The ACE work number gives access of a song to the songwriter, composer and label as well as all performers of a song. Besides that it gives access to the ISWC number of the song as well as the IPI numbers of the artists. --Hannolans (talk) 17:21, 20 February 2018 (UTC)

- Support Now that we have BMI Work ID this makes every bit of sense, they go hand in hand imo. Moebeus (talk) 19:02, 21 February 2018 (UTC)
- Support. It would be good to make clear, in the description and constraints, that this relates to a composition, not a recording. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 17:56, 22 February 2018 (UTC)
- That's a very good point, and made me notice that it's tied to Q207628 (musical composition) rather than Q2188189 (musical work), which at least up until now is where properties like composer, lyricist, Musicbrainz Work ID etc. are tied in. This should probably be addressed in the proposal? Moebeus (talk) 19:04, 22 February 2018 (UTC)
- That was me, I broadened the scope from song (Q7366) one up to composed musical work (Q207628), but isn't musical work (Q2188189) too broad as that includes for example music video (Q193977)? --Hannolans (talk) 20:02, 22 February 2018 (UTC)
- Don't take my word for it, but musical work as described by a ISWC shouldn't include music videos imo. Music videos belong to audio recordings (Q3302947), defined by a ISRC. One ISWC (work) can have several ISRCs (recordings), and where a recording has a related music video that should have it's own unique ISRC (according to the spec).
