- Bureau of Meteorology station ID (P3796) is an identifier of a weather station where observations are taken on the ground. See [1] for a map of locations where weather stations collecting rainfall measurements. This proposal is an identifier for place name locations within Australia which would correspond to a point up to 3km away in the forecast grid from which localised weather forecasts are provided. Weather observations for place name locations at weather.bom.gov.au I assume just come from the closest weather station (Bureau of Meteorology station ID (P3796)) as the bird flies. In an example such as Neale, WA the closest weather station with full daily climate data is stated to be 228km away at Warburton, WA but if using this proposed identifier to weather.bom.gov.au, you'd get weather forecasts localised to a point within 3km of Neale, WA in the forecast grid.
