- Motivation
The Church of Sweden is the grand authority on churches in Sweden and just recently made an API available. Through that a lot of facts could easily be checked and it also enables a lot of mashups if this property is available. Ainali (talk) 14:46, 3 October 2016 (UTC)

- @Ainali: Looks promising, do you have any example of what data can be found here? -- Innocent bystander (talk) 09:07, 5 October 2016 (UTC)
- @Innocent bystander: Yes, as can be read here there are data like coordinates, address, website, administrative unit, congregation etc. Ainali (talk) 09:36, 5 October 2016 (UTC)

- Oppose We should only create external-id properties for open databases. A database which requires an API key to read the data is against the spirit of providing knowledge for free to everyone. --Pasleim (talk) 17:05, 10 October 2016 (UTC)

! -- Innocent bystander (talk) 19:00, 10 October 2016 (UTC)- my arguments also apply for string-properties. --Pasleim (talk) 11:41, 12 October 2016 (UTC)
- @Pasleim: This identifier can be used to separate different entities related to the Church of Sweden. That relation is often enough to accept it as an identifier. We cannot form a working url with this identifier, but that could be said about every Property related to Statistics Sweden. And Swedish Open Cultural Heritage URI (P1260) also demands a "key" to access the local api by a bot. The data is "open" to everybody with an interest, since anybody could ask for such a key. Also atChurch of Swedens database, anybody can get such a key of their own, ie. it is open. It looks to me like it is easier to get this key than to get a the

The same with all Wikimedia wikis: you can see all pages, you can see their content and you see that the pages exist. On Swedish church you don't get anything without an API key, except the message "An error has occurred". --Pasleim (talk) 19:15, 16 October 2016 (UTC)

- @Pasleim: An API-key is available "for free to everyone", so it is in fact exactly inline with that spirit. Also, the database has an open license, so by your argument we should create a property for this database. Ainali (talk) 22:05, 16 October 2016 (UTC)
- @Ainali: could you please update the proposal to document (or add a URL that documents) the process to obtain the API key ? Thanks ! Dachary (talk) 16:10, 18 October 2016 (UTC)
- @Dachary: Not sure in what field that would go into. The process is to sign up with email and captcha or google account on this page: https://api.svenskakyrkan.se/a/registrera and the key is sent automatically without delay. Ainali (talk) 16:34, 18 October 2016 (UTC)
- @Ainali: You could add to the Motivation part of the proposal, to clearly address the concern about openness. I confirm that I've retrieved the key but the steps being in a foreign language only are difficult (from the point of view of someone writing a bot for instance) and they deserve to be documented. After receiving a mail, a URL must be copy/pasted, in the webpage displayed by the URL a password must be entered twice and then one must click the https://api.svenskakyrkan.se/a/nycklar link (Mina API nycklar) and then type a name for the API key which is then displayed on the web interface. I'm stuck at this point because I don't know how this key could be used with https://api.svenskakyrkan.se/ : maybe there is a pointer to a documentation ? Dachary (talk) 17:33, 18 October 2016 (UTC)

- Comment I removed "ready" as I don't see why this wouldn't have datatype "external-id". If the formatter url doesn't work for anybody, I don't think it should be added. It can go in some user gadget.
--- Jura 12:09, 19 October 2016 (UTC) - Comment I can confirm that the authentication for the API does not currently work, not with a GET parameter nor with a HTTP header. They also seams to have a broken login system for now. I suggest this is put on-hold until the issues are resolved on their side. --Abbe98 (talk) 19:17, 19 October 2016 (UTC)
- Comment It doesn't really matter if the api works or not, but if you don't want to pursue it, I mark it as withdrawn.

Note: This was renominated as a property without using the API and is now Property:P5048. --RAN (talk) 20:24, 18 July 2018 (UTC)
