Motivation

So I translated the wikipedia article, so it has a bit of explanation: w:Brazilian Nonproprietary Name The main problem would be the naming, as "Brazilian Nonproprietary Name" is not as much known, I have seen a single use of it being shortened to BNN, but I think it would cause more confusion in the long term, so it would be better to use "DCB Number".

The term DCB initially meant to be refer to the nomenclature on how to write the chemical names in Portuguese, but today the DCB is mostly used to refer to the DCB number. Officially they use the term "DCB Number" and not "DCB ID".

On their list, they show leading zeros, 5 characters total, and I haven't seen in their documentation the need for it, maybe I have to dig a bit more. The database I have goes up to 12773 entries, and I guess that if they ever get to 100k entries, they would add another leading zero. So I'm not opposed to storing it without the zeros.

They also include plants with active compounds in the list, so maybe the description could be adjusted, any suggestion for it?

In the official webpage there is a spreadsheet, it contains the DCB Number, the substance name in Portuguese, and the CAS Registry Number (P231), so we could use the CAS Number to easily import it. spreadsheet

• As I understand, this is something similar to World Health Organisation international non-proprietary name numeric ID (P3350) for International nonproprietary name (Q824258)? Are these DCB numbers stable? Wostr (talk) 18:49, 2 August 2023 (UTC)

  Exactly, they are similar to the WHO INN numbers. And good question about the stability. They had done a change/migration in 2003~2004, and it has been stable since then. I think there is much more at stake now if they would do a change again. So, its 19 years of stability. -- Arthurfragoso (talk) 19:02, 2 August 2023 (UTC)

  I could not find an ideal search URL in any government official website, there is a website that do this job, but I don't think we should link to them, example: escitalopram 03512

  This code/id is mainly used in drug store software, when doing inventory management, purchasing products, sending reports to the regulatory agency and things like that.

  The only official database I know is this official spreadsheet.

  The idea came when I was porting the drugs infobox from the English wiki to the Portuguese wiki, example: pt:Atomoxetina, the people who made the infobox had already made a field "DCB n°".

  I was also wanting to submit the drug legal status (schedule drug level, or over the counter (OTC)), but this would be another Property request for later. -- Arthurfragoso (talk) 20:19, 2 August 2023 (UTC)

  I found the legal status (medicine) (P3493) entry, its just not being used widely, I will see if I can help improving this later.

  I'm an undergraduate pharmaceutical student, I had done an internship in a drug store last year, but I did not pay attention to all the DCB uses cases. I will try to investigate it a bit more to help improve the Wikipedia article.

  But doing a bit of Googling, it seems the main use case is when reporting on controlled substances, in a system called SNGPC. They have a webapp, but it is password protected. [1]

  And there are 3rd party systems that also communicate with this SNGPC, and they also ask for the DCB number: [4]

•  Oppose I want to make sure other people can verify the identifiers. Even if they do not have pages for each chemical and we cannot link out, at the very least the spreadsheet should be archived to ensure people can check it when needed.
