Motivation[edit]

The Metropolitan Museum of Art (Q160236) tracks constituents (artist, institution, entity, etc.) in its collections database using well-maintained unique IDs. Synchronizing them with Wikidata via an external ID benefits both sides, by supporting unambiguous and precise attribution. This also benefits Wikidata by providing aliases and helping to complete the coverage of artists and creators by using more than 20,000 constituents that the Met has, but are missing from Wikidata.
