Motivation[edit]

The database on the site contains a comprehensive gazetteer of churches in Scotland, past and present; plus slowly growing coverage of places of worship of other faiths. Entries for most of Scotland are stubs, giving locations, addresses, and cross-references to other databases; but more extensive records can be found especially for churches in Fife, Angus and Aberdeenshire, with information gathering underway elsewhere, and detailed records for many more churches said to be in advanced preparation but not yet online.

Simply to have the comprehensive list of Scottish churches would be valuable, and useful for cross-reference eg the listing from GENUKI ID (P7352), as well as particularly useful for clearing up current duplicates (of which we have a significant number). The links to the detailed records for the churches in the north-east are an added bonus, of especial value for eg Wikidata-driven infoboxes on Commons.
