Motivation[edit]
Controlled Vocabulary for Rare Materials Cataloging is a controlled vocabulary developed and maintained by the Controlled Vocabularies Editorial Group of the Rare Books and Manuscripts Section (ACRL/ALA). It provides standardized vocabulary for retrieving special collections materials by form, genre, or by various physical characteristics that are typically of interest to researchers and special collections librarians, and for relating materials to individuals or corporate bodies. Discussion[edit]

- Support--Why not "Controlled Vocabulary for Rare Materials Cataloging ID"? This would align with the label of the "stated in" value, and since many users won't be familiar with RBMS as an acronym or an organization the vocab's scope isn't very clear from the label. Or maybe "RBMS Controlled Vocabulary for Rare Materials Cataloging ID" if the former sounds too generic. Otherwise fully support. zidmgmt (talk) 12:49, 21 April 2022 (UTC)
- I wanted to keep it short and sweet, and also make it easier for data entry, because all you'd have to do is type RBMS in the property box and it would bring up the correct property to input. But RBMS Controlled Vocabulary for Rare Materials Cataloging ID would be fine for that as well if others prefer it that way. UWashPrincipalCataloger (talk) 18:16, 21 April 2022 (UTC)

- Comment why not remove the "cv" and use a numeric ID Germartin1 (talk) 05:49, 2 May 2022 (UTC)
- The "cv" is part of the ID, and it would be more correct to keep it in the identifier. Plus, as someone who copies and pastes identifiers from the Library of Congress Linked Data Service, it would be easier to be able to copy the identifier as found there. Prefixes for other vocabularies hosted by the Linked Data Service have also been included in Wikidata IDs, so I don't think this one should be any different. The inclusion of "cv" in the identifier makes it clear which vocabulary a term comes from. UWashPrincipalCataloger (talk) 01:25, 5 May 2022 (UTC)
