Discussion[edit]

  •  Neutral A couple of notes on this proposal.
It's not correct to call it audiovisual work. This external identifier represents anything related to TV/Cinema, and even humans.
The identifier could represent too many concepts at the same time: even other web pages that are not particularly useful as identifiers.
Fictional characters: Iron-Man
Actors: Anthony-Hopkins
Directors Stanley-Kubrick
Songs: Robert-Downey-Jr./Every-Breath-You-Take
Bands: Aerosmith
Other website subpages: genre/Rock-Pop

Better now? @Luca.favorido:--Trade (talk) 02:05, 24 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Trade: sorry, but I'm still not fully convinced about this property.
The external identifier URL doesn't make any distinction on the entity type.
WhoSampled artist ID (P6517) and WhoSampled track ID (P10720) have the same formatter URL (P1630) even if they represent very different things, and we're now discussing about adding another property with the same formatter URL but with a different meaning.
I think this could create confusion at different levels. For example, if you query for items in WhoSampled DB, would you use 3 different properties? Does it make sense?
And how can we decide if an element fits better one property or the other? There could be duplication and overlapping, like actors who are also directors.
And I think it's not a strong definition for a property "anything which is not covered by the other 2 properties".
However, I'm still a newbie in the field of Wikidata semantic properties. That is also the reason why I'm not voting against it: it's easy to get it wrong on these topics.
I leave the discussion to other members of our precious community, who will surely clarify my doubts. Thanks --Luca.favorido (talk) 11:12, 25 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Oppose: @Trade, there are multiple opportunities to make more specific properties. For example, anything with /tv/ should be in a new property WhoSampled television series ID (why is the subpage called this but the property proposal infobox referring to something else)? Everything not in that namespace should get moved to the "WhoSampled ID (other)" proposal. RPI2026F1 (talk) 13:47, 5 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
How would you feel about a "WhoSampled person ID"? Trade (talk) 15:44, 7 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
If there's a /person/ in the URL or something similar that differentiates them then I don't have a problem with that RPI2026F1 (talk) 17:28, 8 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I changed the proposal as my suggestion. Laftp0 (talk) 03:37, 4 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
